console loyalty

ive noticed in every thread mentioning the PS4 or the next Xbox that a lot of people have already decided what console they will be getting even before the new Xbox has been officially announced.

when did all start as last generation was a complete one sided battle with most people owning a PS2 (about 5:1 on sales figures) and one of the biggest reasons (imo) for the 360 having such a lead this generation was the earlier release and then the mistake by Sony of the PS3 release price and so much later after the 360.

yet people are already saying they will only get an xbox and ignore the PS4, surely if the Xbox ended up being delayed until late 2014 or even 2015 this would change a lot of people opinions.

ive personally owned multiple of all this generations consoles due to 2xRROD, 1x YLOD and getting bored of the Wii novelty but getting another for mario :)

im now left with a PS3 and a Wii and the reason is that i wanted the bluray and dont want to pay for online, i have no real loyalty to Sony but ill get a PS4 and highly likely a next gen xbox when its out too

so why all the loaylty?

I'll be getting both, unless ms block second hand games and then I'll be getting the ps4 only. I have no loyalty to any console, though this gen I've mostly gamed on the 360 but it's due to my preference on the controller.

I'm rrally looking forward to what the next gen brings on both consoles.

Xbox is my main console due to friends having the machine and we have played together online since the first Xbox.

I will get both next gen though regardless.

Console loyalty doesn't really make sense but its been going on since back in the megadrive v snes days and probably before... it didn't start last generation. Although PS2 "won" that gen easily it was Microsofts bedding in period getting the Xbox brand out there in to gamers homes by throwing as much cash at it as possible so now we have the situation where both Xbox and PS have a relatively equal share of the market.

The next gen will be very interesting to see how it develops. We know a bit about the PS but not much more than rumour about the Xbox yet. Personally I dont know which I'd get if I had to choose one (there's not enough for me to base my decision currently). I'm not only considering the Nextbox because I've only owned an Xbox this gen, it all depends on what's on offer - loyalty doesn't make sense so I'm not going to limit myself needlessly.

TLDR: Loyalty is stupid and doesn't make sense. Buy both console to play the exclusives if you can afford it! :)

I'll probably get whichever comes first, go through a period of then owning both. Then sell one and invest in the remaining one. Same as I did this gen.

I don't have enough time to play on one console so I certainly can't justify keeping two. I never understand this "buy both if you can afford it" I am sure most people on this forum can afford all 3 consoles, both handhelds and a PC. That takes up a lot of space and time if you don't play them much though.

Exclusive games are the main, thing not really the consoles. the console itself will have about the same performance but the features and games might be better on one or the other. i think it is best to wait a year to see which has the best features that are used in a game that you will play then decide which is best for you, but buying both of them is the way to go if you can afford it.

I hope to get a PS4, based upon me owning a PS1, PS2 and PS3. My PC is next to my TV, so I often game at 1080p with a wireless 360 pad.

I got a release day PS2 and it broke. The replacement also broke. So did the replacement replacement. I do like my PS3 but it is the 60GB 90nm version which sounds like a Dyson.
I will never buy a console upon release again!

Brand loyalty itself isn't a bad thing, fanboyism is the bad thing. I can tell you now I am planning on getting the nextbox due to liking two major exclusives - Halo and Forza. Obviously if Microsoft stop second hand games or make a turd of a console my choice may change but it is my current plan.

I don't know which I'll get. Since 1990, I've had all the major consoles except the Wii and PS3.

Next gen, I'll make my choice Xbox and PS4. I don't think I'll get both, as it will probably be too expensive. The PS4 has already lost a point for having the controller laid out wrong again.

The only exclusives I'm bothered about by either MS or Sony are the driving games. Namely Forza and Gran Turismo. As things stand Forza, is miles in front of GT in my opinion. I borrowed my mate's PS3 to play GT5, and I was totally disappointed with it. The GUI is a total joke, and the driving experience is nowhere near as good as Forza. Going by the PS3 example, GT6 should be out by about 2020.

What is important to me, is what MS do with Live Gold. I personally no longer play online multiplayer games. I don't like playing with strangers, and all my real life friends that I used to play with years ago all have young families these days.

I don't mind them charging for multiplayer, but I hate the way MS make you have a gold account to use things like Netflix and YouTube which are free on every other platform. If they continue that theme to the next generation, I'll be giving it a miss.

Last gen, I preferred the PS3, but bought a 360 because I wanted to play with all of my mates.

If I buy a console this gen I'll most likely choose it for similar reasons. Though I will probably just end up sticking with PC, the PS4 didn't look that amazing and I doubt the next xbox will be much different.

I'll get both consoles without a doubt but loyalty surprises me especially before specs are known. For instance saying you'll get the xbox because you like the pad is assuming the pad will be the same. I can't imagine MS will change it much but I'm sure it will be changed in some way. I'm hoping I'm wrong but I have this horrible feeling that MS are going to push the Kinnect/multimedia even more this time and loose focus on gaming. Time will tell but surely if you and friends are going to get a new console it should be based on what's better or what software appeals more and not pre-decided based on loyalty.

I will get both for sure. Had a ball this gen with both and I want the exclusives from each platform. I have leant more towards ms this round but I've gotten everything that was worth having on the ps3 as well. I don't feel particularly loyal to either really. Just keep the good games coming and ill buy them.

Unless Microsoft do something drastically wrong then I will be getting the NextBox. Not really down to brand loyalty though. Purely as I already have a XBL account with a tong of achievements and games/dlc tied to it (though they may not carry over, I know).

xbox and ps3 are basically the same anyway for the gamer, can't see ps4 and nextbox being different.
