console loyalty

Ive owned every major gaming console. The NES will always have a special place in my heart. My fav ever console was the N64 and my current gen is Xbox 360.

My preference for choosing a console is friends...what they play determines what i play usually however...Xbox for me just seems so much easier. I only play COD and FIFA on consoles anyway so all this extra functonality offered by PS4 and Nextbox wont bother me.

I am a PC gamer through and through now. Dayz, Tomb Raider, Crysis etc

But yeah i dont have loyalties. I thought i did until the Wii U...then i just realised that Ninten-dont.

Here's where I stand;
I got the Xbox and it was great for a while, then support for it just stopped when the 360 came out, fair enough, not entirely a major issue for me but was still a bit miffed.
Then the 360 was also great at the start, I really enjoyed it. It had wonderful games that could not be found elsewhere at the time. Great dashboard and a nice community online at the time, I still remember playing Lost Planet online when it came out and everyone was so polite, was bizzare xD

But then after a while it just fell apart, the exclusives just stopped? Well no, that's a lie, it still has a fair few exclusives but it shy's in comparison to other consoles. I still have my 360 for the Gears series though, I do have a soft spot for that :) But Microsoft just seemed to change direction of where they were headed to me, more about home entertainment in centralized location which is great, but they seem to of forgotten about people who purely like to play games or mainly want to. Also a note about the home entertainment thing, I just do not get why I have to be a gold subscriber to access services like netflix? Something I have already paid for and can access anywhere else without needing an extra...

I guess the thing that puts me off the Xbox brand the most is Microsoft's business decisions and that makes me cautious about the next Xbox. I will have to wait until much later in its life cycle to make a choice about it. Also the rumours of it having a bigger focus on Kinect will put me off, six-axis (which is hardly used anyway) and waving the wii-mote is as much as I like? I agree that the Kinect is a great piece of kit, but I'm just personally not interested in it at all. I like having a controller with physical feedback. No doubt it will still have a controller though of course, but I guess we'll wait till E3.

I've had the PS1, 2 and 3. Have I been disappointed with either of them at any stage? Nope. The PS1 is still actually my favourite console and probably will never change due to it being part of my childhood after playing the megadrive, but I'm confident that they'll still consider my needs as a gamer. Granted the social stuff did make me raise an eyebrow but they still had the games to show and I'm quite interested in them.

And of course I do think exclusives are important, I don't see the point in owning console A if all of it's games or a great deal of them are also on console B while console B also has a ton of games not on console A, let alone the fact that the multi-plat games are also on PC, which is what I'll most likely get them for. You could argue that most of your friends have games on console A and to be honest in that scenario that's fair enough, IF you want to invest financially into that to play with them. Despite that, most of my friends left Xbox and went Playstation and PC so it doesn't really concern me.

I'll still wait till E3 of course before I make any final decisions, but based on past experiences I'm pretty confident I'll know what I want to get and possibly even expect. But lets hope there are some surprises in store.

Would I say I have a brand loyalty? Maybe, although I've not bought any of the PSP's and actually chose the 3DS over the Vita. And I am considering a Wii U but I'd like to see more games on it that I'd consider buying and maybe a price cut before I do. But if I did have brand loyalty, I'd say it's due to how I have been treated as a customer by the respective companies? I always kept an open mind when approaching the decision of buying a console or product, but I also take into account my past experiences as previously mentioned.

Its gonna be the next xbox for me. I loved the PS. I had a PS1 and PS2. Changed to xbox cause I liked the games on it more.

Most probably the Nextbox as i've enjoyed it for the past 2-3 years, previous to that I just gamed on the PC. Reason I chose the xbox was mostly down to what my mates used for gaming.

Think what i'll do, regardless, is wait until the Nextbox launch, give it 5-6 months and take a view on both of them...

Have both a PS3 & 360 but came from the N64 so for me both were unknown territory. For me the only real difference is the exclusive games which imo Sony wins hands down.

Having played most of the 360 exclusive games the only one which seems of any real quality is Forza.

I will wait to see what Microsoft offer but atm the PS4 looks like a safe bet, and Sony appear to have addressed the areas where the 360 was better (multiplatform games, Controller & communication/online).

Im not loyal to either im having both next gen consoles but tbh this gen i thought the xbox was the better of the too.

I got both the 360 and the PS3 on launch. In the 1st few years there was no contest. The PS3 barely had any good games and the Xbox 360 seemed to have a great gaming coming out every months so I sold the PS3. Over the course of the generation and near the end the roles reversed completely so then had to purchase another PS3 to get involved. I'll always prefer the PC but also always need a console at the same time. Sony seem to have been on the ball the last few years. Perhaps they got complacent being top dog for 2 generations without a real challenger but they seem to have their appetite back so based on current form I'm going Sony.

Also I personally don't think MS will come close to matching PS4 spec wise and may release quite a gimmicky console. I really don't care for Kinect, this is a big reason MS have went down in my estimation.

Is it any different to Sony with move and the new eye toy they showed?

I'll get an xbox, just because it WILL have better services both in and out of game.

Don't get me wrong sony are awesome and i loved the PS and PS2. I wouldn't say it is loyalty either, mostly a mix of fanboys and what people want from a product, whether it be exclusive titles, services or whatever else.

I guess to an extent but they dont seem to push it as much as Microsoft push kinect. I did also give other reasons for my potential choice. I really enjoyed the 360 in the early days. Just not so much now and it's not even set up these days. Perhaps Microsoft will completely surprise me though, maybe valve's steambox will show up at some point and be amazing. Should be interesting that's for sure. I think brand loyalty is stupid though. I will go with who I feels offers me the best experience for my personal taste.

I've had both an Xbox 360 and PS3. I prefer the PS3 but that wouldn't prevent me buying a NextBox. For me the biggest problem I have is getting the time to play the games I have... so I'll probadly buy a PS4 and stick with that!

Yep, after having both for a few years now i can confidently say the the major PRO for the PS3 are exclusives. And the major PRO for the 360 is online gameplay. Apart from that the different isn't all that great

Right at this moment I feel both Sony and Microsoft are moving away from the core basics of gaming and the further they move away (like Nintendo), the less interested I'm becoming. I've had a 360 since launch and a PS3 (for a while) and I've enjoyed them, but nothing of what I've heard about the PS4 excites me and nothing rumored about the next Xbox does either. I just see a list of 'features' I don't want.

Maybe I'm outgrowing gaming, who knows, although I personally think Microsoft and Sony are changing what gaming or games consoles are and its taking the fun away for me. I look at how the 360 (PS3 too, but to a lesser extent) has evolved over its 7+ years with its software and hardware and its almost unrecognisable now, Aside from improvements to the quality of the hardware pretty much all of it is wasted on me.

I just want a console, a pad and to sit and play a game or watch the odd film.
I don't want to exercise, if I did I'd go outside and ride my bike, I don't want to dress an Avatar or take a tour round a virtual apartment, I don't want to browse the internet or go on Facebook, I have a PC for that.

I can really see me not bothering this time around, but that said, if there's an exclusive I simply can't live without I may end up buying one or the other as I have no particular loyalty to either.

Well this gen I currently own a C64/NES/Master System/SNES/MegaDriveII/Dreamcast/N64/PS1/PS2/Gameboy/Gamegear/Gameboy color/Gameboy advance/Nintendo DS/Nintendo 3DS/Wii/PSP/PSVita/PS3/Xbox/Xbox 360. Pretty sure that's all of them :p Never did buy the saturn :( was too expensive.

I'm pretty sure I will carry on buying consoles :) I still need to buy the Wii-U but I'm waiting for the price to drop some more on that.

I have a decent amount of xbox live, and loads of MS points and purchases on the xbox live system which I would lose if I went over to the PS4. But if Microsoft don't allow the console to play 2nd hand games, then I'll be swapping to PS4 unless the price of games dramatically decreases.

We'll see.
