Console vs PC

I remember back in the day when Gears of War was released on PC. I played through the campaign multiple times at 1080p60. Then I played it at my mates house on his Xbox 360. I thought my eyes were failing me. It was like a slideshow. Same with Dirt 3,I couldn't believe how terrible it looked compared to my 5850 system. I'm tired and drunk so I don't even know the point I'm trying to make lol. Happy new year I guess.

That's not what I said at all.

But now that you mention it, it's not just the 4090 that is expensive though is it. Even the mid range is expensive. You can't even buy a 4070 Super for the same price as an OLED Steam Deck, which might I remind you is a complete PC with an OLED screen, speakers and controller all built in. If you are not chasing the upper end of graphics performance why bother with a gaming PC at all? I can play most new PC games on the Steam Deck with reduced settings and it's just fine for me. Stick it on the dock and I have keyboard, mouse and monitor.

To answer the OP's question, in the current climate of ridiculously expensive gaming PC hardware, the best option, if money is limited is a Steam Deck plus your choice of console. There is over 30 years of amazing games available. Why spend over a grand on a gaming PC when the game of the year last year is a card game that can be played on a mobile phone! For the price of two triple A modern games, you can buy a retro console of your choice and a flash cart / ODE!

Oh so you meant the 4080? fair enough.

I'm more than happy with my RX 6600 I picked up for £175. The Steam Decks are kind of cool but I would miss my 32 inch screen, keyboard, mouse and the ability to upgrade.

Buy a £15 dock from Ali Express and you can plug it right into your 32" monitor, keyboard and mouse. Upgrade Steam Decks when a new one comes out and buy a PS5 for the new triple A games. Get a switch 2 when it comes out and you will be set for years to come.

Yeah I've got a hub for my Lenovo Legion Go so I can connect it up to a monitor, keyboard and mouse if I want - it actually handles most newer games OK as long as you either accept lower resolutions like 1280x800 or turn settings down at 4K.

I really hope Valve releases a new Steam machine this year. Then the answer to the OPs question would be get a Steam machine and have the best of both worlds.

I love my PS5 Pro. I also love my PC. I see them as 2 completely separate activities.

I cannot, *CANNOT* even begin to imagine plugging my PC into my big TV to game on the sofa with it - that's strictly console territory!! I'm still of the mindset that my PC lives at a desk attached to a monitor. I sit there, away from the TV.

I will admit I now own a controller for my PC, although I did feel a little ashamed attaching it :o
