Increased quality and most importantly frame rate, I played and loved Stellar Blade on ps5 but the frame drops at times were hideous.
Then I bought Elden Ring on ps5 as it was heavily discounted, jesus christ that ran even worse, not even a great looking game.
Consoles still have their place to me though, I have a switch OLED and a ps5 - but they rarely get used now - especially now I have a cable run from my main pc to my living room TV.
For those saying PC's are easy, try giving an old(still good compared to what they would get) PC to a family member. You will be getting 24 hour support calls for every little ***** thing, for the rest of your life! Consoles are much easier and use less power, most will be up and running in a few minutes and everything is auto update, no drivers. If all you do is game, consoles are a good option. If you have a PC for other things, adding a GPU(might need a better PSU) can be a good option although it might still be cheaper to just get a console. PC gaming is sort of like virtual console gaming at this point, each launcher is like a console(Steam, Epic, MS, Uplay...). A PC can also be used for other things but you have to maintain it and keep it up to date and when something goes wrong, fix it.
It's not a car for **** sake. Most updates are automatic and even if you don't do them, it's not like it suddenly stops working.
Heard it all now, apparently automated driver updates are a bridge too far.
Best get my socket set ready for when I have to do all that fixing and maintenance, might be due for an oil change soon actually.

WTF have cars got to do with this?
When some hardware/software stops working, do you just ignore it until the PC does not power up anymore. I have had to fix a lot of PC's over the decades and yes, sometime tools are required.

You making it sound like 'maintaining' a PC is a massive ordeal like a car lol.
Windows updates automatic, game updates automatic, Nvidia drivers I have to click a button, so much to maintain.
I'm unsure exactly how often this maintenance and fixing is required because my pc is going on two years now and I don't have to do anything.
Oh but you know what the good thing is, if my console dies I have to buy a whole new console yet if a PC component dies I can replace just that one bit. Magic.

You think "fixing and maintenance" sounds like an ordeal like a car. I dont, I did not say that, you did. If a console stops working, send it back for a replacement(if it has warranty). Most user have no interest in PC hardware/software, so they probably take it to a repair shop and pay to have it fixed.
In no particular order....
- KB/M, lots of games work better on KB/M
And while you can use them on console, the games where they're almost unplayable without (strategy most obviously, but also MMO/ complex ARPG), they will work better on PC (for multiple reasons)
For shooters, which work fine on a controller, KB/M would still be a massive advantage. (to the point that if you're playing with KB/M only against console players.. you're basically shooting fish in a barrel)
For games that work better on controller, you have a wider range of controller layouts to choose from (and much more customisation in many cases)
- Better performance/settings, graphics capability is much better obviously, so devs can scale up to whatever ridiculous demands they want to (and optimisation/performance be damned!), but also I may be wrong but I don't think consoles yet support aspect ratios other than 16:9, or adaptive sync.
- Cheaper games generally (plenty of free ones to claim, no fees to play online, PC only gamepass is cheaper than Ultimate etc.)
- Mods!!! This is something that changed what gaming was for me (GTA:SA first and then others... can you imagine Bethesda games without mods???)
- Customisation - Make it your own, configure as you need
*Better/faster/more hardware? Sure - can target 100+ FPS... need storage, easily scale up to tens (or hundreds) of TB
*Aestetics? - Obviously, can make it look awsome (whatever that is for you) or hide completely
- Silence!
This is a big one for me, you can either go for a full WC loop and have top tier performance with almost zero noise, or fully passive with lower performance.
Can also build in to a piece of furniture if you want without causing overheating,
- Multi tasking/use-case, you can do a lot more on a computer, whether that's due to software, greater connectivity (consoles only have 2-3 USB ports max), multiple monitors.
Can watch a video on a second screen while gaming on the main one (or the Mrs watch something on it so she'll actually let you game in peace )
Can Game/Record/Stream, often all at the same time, then edit/export the vids on the same machine if that's what you're in to (also just as good for music production etc.)
- Call people 'console peasants' online, this will get you all the girls, trust me brah
Personally the only device that would interest me these days would be the Steamdeck as it isn't locked down all that proprietary, subscription based, walled garden **** used to drive me nuts on consoles. Conversely consoles "just work" the amount of time I've seen newbies completely stumped on how to get a game running on their antiquated hand me down PC that will barely play Tetris and having to break it to them gently that their piece of kit isn't going to cut it most are kiddies or students with no money and are basically clueless
Its a bloody appliance like a washing machine or a TV if it breaks you return for a replacement or fix. Its straightforward unlike troubleshooting PC's.
I hardly have any trouble with my pc for years now and I not giving up my steam collection.
It sounds like some of you not played on a pc in many years and you don't have to spend 1000's on a pc.
I definitely think a console these days is cheaper to play your games. Playing on my ps5 has been far cheaper than playing on PC in recent years. Yes the graphics aren't as crisp, but it's more than enough.
If you have a very large steam/pc game collection you can probably run those games on older/less expensive hardware. So instead of upgrading anything you buy a console for newer games.(don't put your pc in the bin)
This means you can continue gaming on both pc and console until:
1) you get old and/or die.
b) you become rich.
iii)hardware becomes affordable.
- poor backwards compatibility and limited game library, older generation games are unplayable or locked at 30fps. a lot of indie games are not on consoles. emulation on PC is great I have a whole library of PS1/2/3, GCN, 360, Wii/U etc games playable at 4k/60.
- high game prices, have to buy from sony/microsoft. no cheap CD keys.
- online fee.
- stuck with that consoles controller. on PC use any controller you want or kb/mouse depending on the game.
- higher framerates, higher resolutions, DLSS, RTX HDR etc.
- no multitasking.
- no mods to manually fix games i.e. change a locked FoV.
- upgrade when I want with PC.
- make $$$ with PC. If I didnt have a PC I wouldnt have known about crypto/mining back in 2013.
I had a PS5 on launch and only used it for a few specific games before it gathered dust and I sold it. If you play one or two AAA games a year a console may be a good choice.
Everyone has individual needs, but I found the PS5 a painful experience and one I was glad to be rid of. I bought mine purely to play FF7 Rebirth, and as another poster mentioned you had to choose between 60fps and hideous or 30fps and decent looking, but still with a bunch of problems. I sold the console on the MM immediately after beating the game, spent the entire time wishing I could have played it on PC.
I do somewhat get the convenience argument, but the things you're complaining about are a rare to non issue, at least for me. I've always found setting things up for the TV very easy and generally quick. I'd say that anyone interested in running their pc on a TV that has the means should at least give it a shot.
I gave up on FFVII Rebirth on PS5 after about 15 hours. The 60FPS mode really was hideous and I'm not playing an action game at 30FPS. So I sold my copy and decided to patiently wait for the PC release. Looking forward to playing at 4k60+ next month.
This was a major driver for me to sell my PS5 too, so I did so in August. Now I'm a bit older I'm way more patient for games, I've decided I don't mind waiting for PS exclusives anymore and I'll just wait for the superior PC release. It's the first time since 1998 I've not had any current gen PlayStation in my house, in fact I have no current gen console anymore for the first time since I was a 6 year old receiving a Sega Megadrive in the early 90s. I'm all in on PC.
PC because:
- way better performance and visuals;
- way better controls;
- better and more games (for my taste);
- multi tasking;
- productivity;
- etc
In today's " climate " why do gamers still go the PC over a console? I do get the graphics are better but all or certainly most of the games can be had on the playstation or Xbox.
Also multi tasking. Can you do music conversion, downloading multiple things- ie steam update, scanning music database, torrent, etc, whilst playing another game on a console?

I really do get it as I just can't bring myself to buy the cheaper PlayStation option over spending 3 to 4 times the outlay for a PC to just play games. Are we just?
I have all 3 each with their own dedicated OLED screen. Went back to consoles when money was a bit tighter, but ended up missing PC gaming.
In future I suspect I’ll keep PC and PS combo going. PC for fps, strategy games etc and PS for exclusives and anything else I want a more chilled out sofa experience for.
