Constant Re-Boots

OK weirdly after using my PC with no problems since January 2025 with no reboots it has started doing it again… I have now disconnected all the jumpers from the front panel connector and it still reboots. The PC make a faint pop noise before it reboots which sounds like something is sorting out. I think it might be time for new PC.
 
OK peeps my computer went down the repair shop and they couldn't pinpoint the problem either, this is what they said:

'It boots to BIOS 1 in 10 times, but even in BIOS it crashes and then refuses to boot the majority of the time'

So I bit the bullet and bought 64gb Corsair Vengance RAM (expensive) an AMD Ryzen 9900X CPU and a ASUS ProArt 850 Creator NEO motherboard and put it all together. Worked fine and I was really pleased with the new performance. That was early July. Now after working on a major project for three months it has started doing it's occasional reboot trick 'Event 41 Kernal Power'. It will stay running for a few hours then boom - reboot…

I don't get it, all the components are brand new. I cannot believe it is the reset switch. It has had a replacement Corsair AX1600i 1600W power supply too. I have checked all the drives using Crystal Disk, I have checked all the temps and they are fine and it is still playing up. The only thing I can imagine that could be cause this same problem is the GPUs? Two RTX 2800TIs. Could this be just a simple driver problem? The Event viewer really doesn't give you much of a heads up.

I am beginning to think I am jinxed by some reboot ghost in my room…
 
Well can't really get a better PSU than ax1600i
So probably rule that out for now
Definitely worth disconnecting one GPU to test though

Using extension lead?
Tried a different socket?
 
Actually my motherboard has built in AMD GPU support. I use nVIDIA so I didn't put the AMD drivers on in case of conflict. I suppose I could remove both the 2800ti GPUs and use the built in AMD to see if they are the problem? And no the PC is plugged directly into the mains but that has three sockets on it so I could try one of the others too. Thing is when it reboots none of the lights go off in the PC only the keyboard…

Yeah could try integrated GPU
Though I would probably try 1 x 2080ti first
Just to see if maybe a graphics issue with 2 cards
How are you actually using the 2 GPUs?
 
I don't use SLI on those cards or the AMD one. As a test last night I played a game for a couple of hours and everything worked perfect with no crash…

Have you ever tried a fresh Windows install? Backup your current one first and then do a fresh install, if it doesn't work restore from backup.

Yeah windows especially with some of its recent updates
Is also a possibility
But don't remember if they already tried that
As it's a long thread
 
I don't use the two GPUs for gaming but 3D rendering :-) I was thinking of a fresh Windows install since I didn't do that when I updated my system. However it has worked fine since I did the hardware update.
 
Yeah would probably try just one gpu
Or make an image backup
You can restore those pretty fast
And try a clean install of windows
Could try integrated graphics
But that doesn't help to see if its maybe
A graphics driver issue using 2 cards
Obviously an ax1600i can handle 2 cards
Without breaking a sweat
So psu would be last on the list to look at

If it was fine for 3 months it makes me wonder if the two GPUs (and I assume a lot of fans) are causing vibration and it is knocking something loose.

I assume you changed nothing, prior to the PC starting rebooting again?

You aren't using other devices in the house now, that were not in use before?

That's in my opinion the best PSU ever made
Except for the new ax1600i shift
Which adds atx 3.1 and pcie 5.1 to the original model
Yes anything is possible
But that PSU starting to fail would be bottom of my list of possibilities

Though if using extensions or custom cables
Yes your suggestion would be a good idea to use the cables
That came with it
 
I am using the cables that came with the PSU I wouldn't touch anything else. I really don't think this problem is the PSU or the memory but the GPUs. I have had strange flashes in the past where the screen goes black and then comes back again so I am going to update the GPU driver first since all these problems started when I did a Windaz update this week. If it persists then I will remove both the GPUs and run the machine using the integrated GPU to see if the problem still persists. If it doesn't 'HURRAH' and it might be new GPU time, after all a RTX2800ti is getting on a bit… If it doesn't I think I will try reinstalling Windaz since I didn't do a clean install when I built my new system but just added new components so perhaps the issue is the OS?
 
Weird! I updated the GPU driver and the ASUS B850 AMD driver and then started to play Sudden Strike 5 and no problems for a good few hours… Perhaps after all it was just a driver issue?

Thanks for all the help anyway peeps and good to know that my PSU is one of the best, it should be it cost enough :cry:

And yeah that psu is fantastic
Still got an ax860i kicking around somewhere
Axi series all are great
 
Well I updated the GPU drivers with the new nVidia control panel as well a installing the AMD integrated GPU driver an updated Bluetooth, LAN and some other driver using the ASUS Driver Hub and everything is behaving fine! I think it was probably a GPU driver that was causing a kernel panic. It panicked me since I thought it was an old problem from my previous system come back.

Happy days so far and once again thanks for all the help peeps - much appreciated!
