Contact Lenses - Who wears them?

Strong bump.

Trying to find some lenses online and it's annoying. None have the correct options for my cyl/axis and they aren't even much cheaper than from the opticians (maybe a couple of pounds when it's £40+ for a set of 30 lenses :() Boo astigmatism. This sucks!

There tends to be much less choice for axis on daily lenses, which is annoying as my axis' used to be right between two (170). Now it's moved to 160, so I'm happy! ;d

I've just changed to Clariti one day toric. They're Silicon Hydrogel (the same as monthly lenses), so they're far more comfortable, and less prone to drying out towards the end of the day.

I use monthlies and up until last june I just bought them online, but since then I've been paying £13pm to specsavers which gets them delivered to my door, any checks I need are free, I get a massive discount on their glasses and I can pop into store and get a set of replacement lenses if something goes wrong.
Considering I was paying just under £40 every 3 months buying them and the solution online it's a no brainier just to use specsavers.

My axis is 5 in right and 175 in left. No scales online go up in 5s :/

The acuvue moist ones have been absolutely perfect for me i'm always able to keep them in for long days no problem so i'm looking to keep the same but just so expensive. Might go have a word with my optician and see if weekly or longer ones could work out better.

I did for about 6 months. Was paying something like £35 for monthly disposables. They were alright, felt a bit funky on my eye but they kept drying out. I tried various "makes" of lenses but they all dried out within a few hours. I'm now looking at laser eye surgery as another option.

I've been using Costco for contacts for 8 years, always been brilliant.
£60 for 6 months which is a decent price I feel.

In 5 months time we're going to try a variety of contact lenses because the ones I use and like are a really old brand but I find them extremeley comfortable

I wear daily contact lenses myself, astigmatism ones. I usually wear them from mon to fri then on the weekends i wear my glasses. Lenses i wear are the acuvue moist for astigmatism. they do tend to dry out near the end of the day but i always carry a bottle of eye drops with me when they start drying out.

Think im paying about £28 a mth and got them from vision express.

There probably wouldnt be anything in it if you used a 10° and a 180.

Monthlies / 2 weeklies will almost certainly be cheaper, even with solution. The convenience is a huge trade off for me though.

I use my local optician, there is so little in it. A brand for brand comparison shows my optician is literally a couple of pounds a month more expensive. The glasses discount, having a free 6 monthly checkup, and advice from someone who knows my eyes clinches it for me.

Sounds like improper handling to me.

Someone at my work was having a contact lens trial, and I saw him putting a pair on. He'd come fresh from the loos with clean and WET hands. He thought that was how you should do it......

Of course it is if you want acanthamoeba to eat your eye-ball.

   I always shower with mine in... Never again!

I think I pay £18 per month for Monthlys from Specsavers. I had for years been using Daily Disposables, basic ones I bought online. I started getting headaches over my right eye and slightly less crisp vision in it with contacts. I saw my optician and he said it was due to my Astigmatism gradually getting worse. I tried Monthly torics designed for Astigmatism and the headaches went away. I much preferred the ease of dailies being able to chuck them away and not having to care for them, but when it comes to your eyes, you have to treat them with respect. I think daily torics in my prescription are a combination of rare/expensive so we didn't really look at that option.

Problem is, they are £18 per month and I don't really necessarily wear them every day. With dailies I would wear them 2-3 times a week max. So if I bought a 3 month supply of dailies they would often last 6-9 months which was a lot cheaper.

Anyway, the Monthly Torics I have been given are these new fancy expensive ones designed for comfort which you can only get on the monthly lens mail scheme. I checked online to see if there were any cheaper Torics and there are, at HALF THE PRICE! Mine cost £54 for 3 months supply. These cost only £52.50 for 6 months supply. Here is a pic of them below. I'm not sure how good they would be but I may ask for a trial on them to see if they would be better for me.

Then I would just buy them as and when. That is without solution but still a good price. Maybe they are cheaper for a reason though. My prescription is available in them too.

I liked the lensmail monthly specsavers scheme because it got me £75 off a set of frames which I wear for computer use day to day at work. Work contributed to them as I need them for computer use so it ended up a good deal. The service form my optician at specsavers has been ace. Nice guy. Sometimes they are bad with forms/details but overall ok. I may have another look online to see if I can find some cheaper monthly torics but the above ones seem cheapest.

Wow. How unfortunate for that poor women. :(
The thing is...why is she taking legal action against the company? There is a 1 in a million chance of that happening to someone and billions of people use contacts without this happening so...it's pretty obvious she was just unlucky and contaminated the lenses somehow.

I have worn contacts swimming (otherwise I can't see lol) and removed them straight afterwards. This is with dailies though since they can be chucked away. If I keep them in for any more than an hour after swimming it gets painful as the Chlorine is obviously just sitting inside them.
I've also put them in with hands that should be cleaner a few times. I've put them in and out inside toilets. I've showered with them in. In the decade or so I have been wearing them I have had conjunctivitis twice (which the whole family got anyway) and once a bad sty in my eye. Otherwise, aside from them going red a few times where I've been too rough trying to rip out a contact whilst drunk when there was not one in there (come on, we've all done it) I've been fine.

Sounds like she's under the delusion that it was nothing she did and it was the lens makers fault for including fungus with their lenses.

I think you're right about the whole luck thing, with women being inherently likely to have problems with them long nails and lashings of eye makeup :D
