'contaminated' fuel

Buy up all the O2 sensors people, theres gold in them there hills :p

I thought whenever the supermarket fuel debate came up everybody started shouting about it being the same fuel, from the same depot, delivered in the same tankers. Is this little fiasco (or media field day) a sign that its not? This company called Greenergy seems to be the one that supplies the supermarkets. I assume they buy up whatever stocks are going cheap from the depots and re-distribute it?

Glad I didn't fill the gf's Polo up in Tesco now, I'd never hear the end of it.

A mechanic posted about this a few days ago on another car forum, he'd seen 20 cars come in within two days and all had damaged O2 sensors. All came from the same petrol station too (Tesco in Essex).

Oh crap, I filled up (well, £5 worth, don't laugh) at Morrison's on Saturday....I don't live in the Southeast of england though, should I be OK? I didn't notice anything wrong with the car....although my car is 15 years old.

Greenergy are exclusive suppliers to Tescos.

The wifes Mazda started bunny hopping last Friday after being filled up Thursday at Tesco's. She works for her dad who owns a garage so the cars been in all week. They have been baffled to what is causing it so far but now it's time to check the fuel.

Keep you informed on the result.

Nope not a sign at all, one of the "main" petrol suppliers is also taking complaints (17 so far today) and they distribute nothing but their own fuels.

Hehe, the bonus of driving a diesel i suppose, least i dont have problems like that!

Buying diesel from supermarkets though - You just have to remember to skim the floating turds off the top.

My pet lady always fills up at Tesco in Burgess Hill (south east)

I used to share the common opinion that supermarket and brand petrol is all the same since it comes from the same place. But I've yet to hear a single report yet of someone being affected after filling up at BP, Shell etc.

I filled up my Leon with regular unleaded last week in a town on the East Anglia/East Midlands border. Used just over a quarter of the tank as so far so probs (touch wood). I'm tempted to just use BP ultimate or similar for a while just to be sure. A few extra pence at the pump is preferable to a couple of hundred pounds in repairs.

Oh crap! Guess where I filled the wife's Tigra this morning on the way to work? Bloody Tesco ...

That said, I've done 40-odd miles in the car today with no apparent difference in how it normally runs - no juddering or loss of power. Wondering whether to get the tank drained though just to be safe.

The tank in my Audi is getting low - I filled that up at Tesco last weekend and having used it for most of this week, it seems perfectly normal. Not taking any chances though - I'll be off to the nearest BP station in the morning.

I always fill up a Tescos (love the clubcard points) and I've noticed my ST struggling to start over the past couple of weeks. Could it be fuel related?

Is this ALL unleaded or just the 95 RON fuels ? I use Tesco 99RON and need to fill up again tomorrow. If it is ill head off to vpower.

If you read my post just up a few from yours it is actually at least one other supplier that is affected too, just they have not yet made any offical public announcement at this time as they need to ensure the complaints are in fact genuinely related to their fuel and not just that its people jumping on the bandwagon so to speak because they have some other issue with their car that they want someone else to pay for LOL.
Will know more tomorrow AM I expect...

This is all going to be very interesting.
My car is booked in for Monday to be looked at - I tried to call the dealer today but was out of luck.
I'll be calling them in the morning and asking them to put a sensor aside for my car for Monday.

What is going to be interesting is that this car is only 2.5yrs old and still under its original 3yr warranty.
Now surely even with all this publicity of all the possible people at fault here (fuel supplier, fuel seller, sensor manufacturer, car manufacturer) I am the only one who is definitely not at fault yet I am the one who is potentially going to face a bill here - I'm seeing people paying anything from £150 - £1000 in repair bills.
Surely it is going to have to be done for me under the original car warranty even if it is obviouisly a fuel contaminant and the car manufacturer can claim off whoever they want?
The manufacturer can't really prove anything and all they will have in front of them is potentially a car with a broken sensor?

If things get nasty, and at the end of the day I do need my car for work every day.
I guess - pay bill, tell garage before they work on it to put a sample of the fuel in a container I'll go buy tomorrow.
Prepare bank statements to show when & where I bought the fuel and prepare to ask Tesco to cover all my costs.
If they refuse I guess prepare for court action?

I think this has effected me :(

The Skyline was only firing on five cylinders when I came to start it after putting petrol in earlier this week - I've already booked it into Turbo Fit this weekend to have the problem looked at, but I guess I'll drive it (very slowly) to the nearest Shell station and just add another 30 quids worth to see if it fixes the problem!

Don't Skylines require 98 RON minimum?

Dunno but I do know that Tesco's 99RON is the stuff that has the bio-ethanol added to get the RON number that high. I wouldn't personally touch the stuff.

Watching breakfast news on the BBC this morning, they had one garage stating that they had over 20 cars in needing new oxygen sensors as a result of this.

So it looks like spare parts are going to be another problem with all this.

Ah well, back to using the local esso again, while this all blows over. And they price match the local morrisons anyway!

I either use morrisons, shell, BP or Total, oh or Texaco for my fuel. They recon that the bad batch of fuel will be all used up in a matter of days anyway so I am going to wait until I come back from my hols to fill up then the crap fuel will be out of the system. Tesco deny any chemicals in the fuel they are selling, how on earth can they say that when so many are being affected!
