'contaminated' fuel

I bet if you took a car into a Garage for any problem now you'd come out with a bill for a new sensor..or is that just me being cynical?

My car is having new rear suspension bushes fitted tomorrow , I fully expect them to have fitted a sensor as well (honest guv it was causing problems with the handling )

Tell me, as I have heard about this fuel problem.

I went to Tesco's on Tuesday morning and stuck £35 of unleaded in. Car ran and does run fine. No problems (touch wood) as of yet.

but went to start it wednesday and it took about 3 starts and about 10 seconds to start the car. It was turning over fine. But not firing. Like it was missing / starved of fuel. Is that what a lot of people are experiancing ?

Although, since that incident it has started and performed fine.

Thank you

Doesn't sound like you've been effected. Plus your quite far North, the bulk of the problem is in the South East.

Oh Oh,,,,could mean it could be the start of something else then. There was me hoping Tesco's were going to pay for me to have a bran new Koenigsegg CC

Forgive my ignorance but if they can pin it down to Silicon contamination and a coating of Silicon dioxide or whatever the boffin said could the O2 sensors be cleaned up and/or refurbed?

Depends, the sensor is clearly in a hot location, even touching them can damage a WB02, Narrowband, umm not so sure, not read any cleaning guides, they are so cheap to buy, its the mugs who pay the main dealers to fit them who get ripped off.

4 wire NB02 Bosch is about £40 and WB02 is about £60.

£60 is 'so cheap'? I'd call cheap a fiver but that's me.

I just cannot believe some of the posts in this thread.
Are some people so generally jealous of everything in life that they are now actually jealous of not actually being involved or having anything to do with an issue that is obviously effecting many hundreds, possibly thousands of motorists?
"This doesn't involve me so I'll just acuse anybody that looks like they are having problems of being involved in some kind of conspiracy".

Yer, that's right.
Many hundreds and thousands of us all got together (without your knowledge) and decided to conspire to have hundreds of pounds worth of work done to our vehicles that didn't actually need doing and thus causing ourselves problems with lack of parts etc.

You either know if this issue is effecting you or not.
All these "It's just hysteria" & "Well I think it's BS" and "Just a way for people to make more money" posts really aren't helping anyone.
If you are so jealous of people who get into any situation I'll tell you know that I'd gladly swap places with you.
I'd be happy to be sitting on the outside of this one looking in.
Instead I've got all the fun & games of my vehicle going in on Monday to be looked at.
Maybe I'll luck out, maybe my sensor has survived and a bill to flush the tank of fuel is all I'll face.
Alternatively I could get a bill of £1000 and as of right now it's a bill I'll have to foot because nobody is willing to take responsability for all this.
So carry on being jealous - but I really don't see what you've got to be jealous of.

I agree. Luckily ive not been effected nor has anyone i know, but independant garages have stated that there IS a problem far out of line with what would be the normal number of cars with faulty sensors. So either its the fuel at fault or a dodgy batch of sensors for about 20 different makes of cars over 2 or 3 years all going faulty at the same time? if i were a betting man id put my money on the fuel being the most likely culprit.

Its interesting that tescos and the others say they thier fuel conforms to standards, could new standards have been put in place and somehow these newer cars cant cope with the petrol?.... older cars seem to be far less effected by all accounts.

It will be interesting to see where this all ends up... and i fear no one will be found to blame and no one will pay up and hundreds people will be out of pocket. Seems the real winners are the garages at this stage. :D

From what I hear it's the fuel from Tesco and Morrisons ...so...if we avoid them we should be okay...right? And we can stick to Texaco and BP? Or is this every place?

Stuck £40 in the Mondeo on Wednesday morning from a Tesco in North London before hearing all this. No problems so far thankfully.

However i tried to get some fuel the night before at this same Tesco, but the garage was actually closed. Maybe its related.

Its much better than the figure of "up to a thousand pound to repair" that some of the media are throwing about though.

Just heard that Morrisons have stopped selling Petrol.
Sorry if it has been posted already i have not been following this thread.

It's unleaded they have stopped selling from 41 outlets in the South East.

The Morrisons petrol station in Welwyn Garden City looked open at about 8pm unsurprisingly there was no one filling up. Maybe its only certain Morrisons/Tesco stations and they know which ones got the batch?
