Contesting the Practical Driving Exam result

A friend of mine has just failed his practical exam, but the examiner he had with him was quite ridiculous - first, the examiner grabbed the steering wheel on entering a dual carriageway and pulled the car onto the left because the examiner thought that the lorry that was 10 car lengths behind, on the right(!!) lane, may bump into them. The examiner then apologised and let my friend continue :continue:

Even worse, on a roundabout, the exit that my friend was asked to go has two lanes, and the instructor always said that my friend has to use the left lane - but my friend got 2 majors for joining the left lane, and for 'making a car at an exit brake' (erm, traffic from the right has priority?? He was supposed to come off at the 4th exit, car at the 2nd ventured into the roundabout with front wheels, but then stopped?)

SO this is quite ridiculous, I am aware that there is a way of contesting, does anyone know what the official route to do this is?

Many thanks.

What's he hoping to gain by contesting it? They're certainly not going to give him a pass - the most he could possibly hope for is a free re-test.

I'd just book another ASAP :).

I am aware that there is a way of contesting.

Well I didn't know that. Not sure how it can be proved either way whether you were comptetent at the time even though you failed.

When my wife took her test she said you could have lit a fire with the examiners breath from the alcohol content. She could have shown him her drifting skillz and still pass.

Free retest, didn't think it would be much more than that, but that way at least someone would look into that incompetent fool and get him banned from examining....then again, incompetency and government go hand in hand....well, I seem to be fuming more than my mate.

He jsut told me that the sheet they give you says you can appeal, but it has to go to court and you have to seek legal advice.

Unlucky :( I hope I meet that examiner on the road 1 day

Ah right :)

EDIT: After having a look around, it seems you cannot contest the result of the test, but you can complain about the examiner - i.e. if you thought he was sexist, racist, abusive etc

I failed my first test on a friday at the end of november 06. I had 2 minors and one serious which was for my nose swinging out too far in a reverse around a 90 degree corner. Quotas are bs. as has been said, you can get a refund, but they will not pass you.

mm, i thought it was the case that you just have to lump it, although i believe you can choose not to have that examiner again on your retest

Mate - it is BS.
The only people who think that this is true are those that fail their test - they are looking for anybody/anything to blame other than their own lack of driving ability.
Sorry if this has come as a surprise to you...

Its your mates word vs the examiner, I had a similar situation on my test and nothing came of my complaining. The examiner was set against me from the very start so in the end I went to another test centre and passed 1st time there.

A member of the close family is a driving examiner and he most definitely does not have this "quota" you speak of.
