Contesting the Practical Driving Exam result

And don't forget that in every single case in this thread where somebody has been "failed unfairly" we've simply got your word on that.
There was nobody in the car except you and the tester.
Sure we are all human and thus we are prone to make mistakes.
However I will always take the word of somebody who has been a driving tester for x years over somebody who hasn't even got their license yet - no matter how great a driver they think they are.

In each case of "unfair fail" in this thread - if you couldn't do what was asked of you then you weren't up to the standard required to pass your test.
If a cyclist pulls out then you should have been observing so that you could avoid the problem.

People get upset when they fail their test and will look for absolutely any excuse so that it wasn't their fault.
If you drive a perfect test, make no major mistakes and do everything asked of you by the tester then you will pass.
There is absolutely no question of this.

There is nothing wrong with taking 2, 3, 4 times to pass your test - so stop looking for somebody to blame.
Accept you were not up to the required standard on the day (even if you drive perfectly all the time up to your test and then all the time after it) and get ready for your next attempt.

I will have to disagree with the best drivers apssing 3rd time however - we all know that those who sail through on their first attempt are the best :D

Good point but you should know how to do it anyway. A few days before my test and the day before as it happened i was out doing every manouvre over and over to get it perfect. I did a sweeping left reverse on quite a steep hill. It gives you a chance to show the examiner how good your clutch control is.

Aye, very true mate, but in a test situation from everyone I know i've never heard of having that, just seems quite a "push" which is sometimes a "shove" but again, as said earlier on, we all have just the opinion of our friend whose test it was, but she passed yesterday on her 2nd try, so its all good.

I looked upon the 2 tests I failed as blessings, I didn't feel I was fully ready when put in for my first and actually learnt so much between the first test and passing my test.

theres more to it than this, and this is from somebody who passed 2nd time. My instructor sighed a sigh of relief when he saw what examiner id been given. Certain examiners have a justified reputation of being overly harsh and picky

Just look at the differences in pass rates of the various test centres, they are wildly different. There is no such thing as a "universal tested standard" because at the end of the day its all oppinionated. I mean, if it was scientific they'd need G meters in the car to judge if breaking was too harsh or not for example.

Exactly and it brings us all down to "we are only human".
What one person judges as "a bit near" another probably won't even bat an eyelid.
At the end of the day it is personal judgement, however I really would be more inclined to side with the person who has been doing testing as a job for x years over somebody actually taking the test for the first or second time.

It's the same as football referees - they make mistakes.
Sometimes they are massive, sometimes they are small.
However I'd say in 90%+ of cases it is simply the fact that the decision the ref made led to a team losing a match - even though the decision was absolutely fair, the fact somebody lost or "failed" means there will always be complaint.

Make everything scientific if you want a complete level field - but you have to then remember there is no room at all for personal judgement.
I wonder how many people have passed a test when if the absolute letter of the law was used they might actually have failed?
We shall never know.

no what your experiencing is just an ass who likes to be harsh

theres no personal quota or anything. He's the type of examiner who just likes being picky.

read post properly before flaming, if you read it properly you will that that is EXACTLY what i said...

and some will say to themselves i want to fail x amount of people today, beleive me the examiner from my first test was dismissed for this reason...

When I was learning, my instructor did tell me that these quotas didn't exist. The examiners have their pass/fail counts checked though. If one of them is deemed to be passing or failing a disproportionate number of candidates in comparison to their colleagues at the test centre, they can be pulled up on the matter and possibly retrained.
