There is plenty of evidence to suggest that sexual preference is at least partially determined during foetal development. There was a story floating around the news recently, suggesting that something as simple as serotonin levels during early development can have a large impact on the sexuality of mice.

As with most things related to personality, it is likely to be a combination of different "nature" and "nurture" factors.

Not quite, I dont think I have ever seen gayness described as "suffers allergic rhinitis during close proximity to women".

In an attempt to be serious...

I think I have probably always been gay, or was destined to be gay at a very early age. I did not realise myself that it was the case until I was in my 20s, but looking back, I can remember perving at the other guys in the changing rooms at secondary school, and can faintly remember curiosity in the latter stages of primary school. I used gay 'material' for years thinking I was 'admiring' the guys in the photos and videos. I never conciously tried to repress my sexuality, I just didn't really recognise it. After a while, when I started to have pressing physical needs, I realised there was only one way they were going to be satisfied.
