Convince me to by Plex (lifetime) pass :)

Are you taking about Xplay?
Because that app for LG TVs is absolutely brilliant, ten tones better than the native app, and actually plays 4K & 4K HDR with no buffering at all, the native app is a buffering mess.
Think it’s is actually about £5 and is updated on a regular basis.
Yeah thats the one. I'm sure it's a technically great app, everyone raves about it, but I preferred the interface of the Samsung one. And I grudge paying someone else money for the same/similar product.

Having said that, I've been playing stuff on the LG app without fault recently. I should try the stuff that wasn't working well previously to see if there's still issue.

Thing is if it Wasn't for these Third party Devs then PLEX would be pretty awful if you wanted support. There Devs are awful and take an age to answer issues PLEX MEDIA PLAYER is terrible which i have on our HTPC in the bedroom. Which im going to change Home theatre was great but no longer supported and Windows 10 users do nothing but complain about plex with there support and updates

I agree with Plex Media Player being poor .... it really can't cope with large number of libraries and files very well and is to much "this is what I think you will want to watch" rather than just letting you browse straight to things. Personally I use OpenPHT.

I had assumed he meant just the player (eg clunky seeking controls, subtitle re-synchronisation, codec support) - that is my annoyance.
for library support you can search to nail something ?

yes they updated it on the 23rd Jan with better codec support - other post.

All the elements are mentioned are Player issues. When they changed the main Plex client from Plex Home Theatre (PHT) to the newer Media Player it not only lost a lot of advanced options (and made frankly absurd decisions regarding the control of the interface) but also changed the whole philosophy of the interface from just presenting an interface to access your media to instead being all about suggestions and "rediscovering" your library. Yes, you can still browse but you have to go through the suggestions first. It is also limited, for instance, in the number of libraries it will display in its list ... something the previous client was not, and something my setup falls foul of (although might be workable when they finally sort out collections properly).

OpenPHT is an updated version of the previous PHT fat client which still has the advanced options and the same interface as previously but with updates behind the scenes, something the Plex project said wasn't really possible which was one of their excuses to replace it with the current dumbed down client whose interface is more like that used on its device implementations.

Personally I preferred the fat client prior to PHT but I have been running Plex from back when the server was just an OSX program.

edit: The Plex server I don't have many issues with (other than it's habit of losing external subtitle files when the data is stored on network shares remote to the Plex server.). Do see the odd strange thing (my web interface refers to channels whilst my mates refers to plugins) and it would be nice if my database wasn't quite as big as it is.

This is the style of plex client interface I have on a PC and Roku, I don't have any
to instead being all about suggestions and "rediscovering" your library.
maybe it is because I am not storing media in libraries where they want to find meta-data (or other ?)

I went with the lifetime offer recently. Although it adds nothing special I thought I would support it as a project. I've had years of free use out of it and use it when I'm away on business.

So maybe an investment for future add-ons.

I don't have a dvr player though. Anyone recommend?
