Convince me to get a PS3

He's suggesting it's all shooters and racers for the 360. To be fair it has sports games, rpgs and beatemup/adventure games all sewn up too.

I've spent more time playing Track and Field (on a 110" projector screen XD - something I would never have believed when playing the original on my Spectrum all those years ago!) than my PS3 over the last 3 months.

This variety card doesn't hold with the PS3.

Exactly. Racers are going to be ultra strong on PS3 anyway but Ps3 has made inroads compared to Ps2 interms of fps already.

With variety they are much more effective. This christmas we will see games like Singstar and Eye of Judgement also come out. Sony unlike MS have much more success in other genres and it would ignorant to ignore people who like these.

Ofcourse this wont change the mind of a 360 owner ofterall they get what they want with the 360, but most people play many genres of games. Lets not pretend genres such as RPG, Adventure , platforming etc. dont matter. They do. Otherwise people wouldnt be buying the PS3 or Wii at all.

Its funny hearing 360 fans complain about Wii selling so well when where are the Wii type games on the 360 and PS3 for these people? Its a matter of catering to different types of gamers and right now not everyone is being catered to with the 360.
 
Hi! I bought a wii early on in the year, liked it, but was just a bit unsatisfied with it. The game selection & the graphics mainly, so then traded it in for a 360. wow loved it! a couple of months later my mates were jumping up & down about the PS3, so I thought, like yourself about aquiring this tidy little console (ummh, not that little actually). Anyway, after borrowing a friends for the weekend I realised how foolish it would have been to shell out those hard earnt pounds on a console that is just not as much fun as the 360. The game selection isn't there yet and the online capability is just not xbox live, so why spend the cash?? Its too similar! Having both is just gready dude, don't let yourself be convinced, if you want one so bad, just ask yourself if you would give up your 360 to own one, if the answer is no then, don't get it. if its yes, I would sell your xbox & games to fund your new addiction.

Just my way of looking at it..

i cant name a single person thats bought a ps3 because its rpg's are better. what rpgs, exactly?
 
That's why god invented the Wii360 ;)

I see what you're getting at, and there certainly are some areas that the 360 is lacking (platformers and party games being the main culprits), but on the whole it caters for more than you give it credit for. There are rts and other strategy type games, various sports and racing, 3rd and 1st person shooters, beat-em-ups, rpgs. Rockband is on the way.

Singstar PS3 has been cancelled afaik.

The 360 is the only place to play next gen rpg as it stands. Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Enchanted Arms, Phantasy Star Universe, Eternal Sonata, Mass Effect, Fable 2 and Oblivion vs what? Oblivion & a very very poor port of Enchanted Arms. White Knight Story and FF games look good but when are these due?

I would have said RPG and Racers are much stronger on Xbox360. Racers especially!
Test Drive Unlimited, PGR3, PGR4, Burnout Revenge, Sega Rally, Flatout, Forza Motorsport 2 off the top of my head.

I wouldn't say Sony have had more success than Microsoft on Races. Sony have Gran Turismo and that's about it.

I'm glad someone else picked up on that. Also, the reason for them selling is 2 fold, firstly because they were just about the only promising games (other than F1, but America aren't into F1) and secondly, because every bundle pack comes with them both.

Personally, I hate shooters, so if these were the games people based an arguement on to buy a 360 over a PS3 then I wouldn't be swayed. So its difficult to advise someone on what system is best for them unless they tell us what genre they like playing.

That said, the above 3 games are superb titles, but look at how long into the life of the 360 it has taken for this games to be released, the 360 is 2 years old now, and these titles arent even that old (with the exception of GoW). Its unfair to say that the PS3 cannot compare at all with the 360 for games, when they havent been able to develop titles for the same length of time.

I bet my hat that 2 years into the development of the PS3 the top 3 games on the platform will out do anything the 360 has to offer.

Before the flamewars and shouts of Fan Boy start let me remind you, I own both consoles, and this is the first time I have purchased a Playstation of any kind. I will always be a hugh 360 fan, but feel that in the gaming genre's I prefer it doesn't really excel.

Sony have only needed Gran Tourismo lol ! Biggest selling racing game ( mario cart not sure counts or if its sold as well). I think this and the RPG genre is where the PS3 falls short at the moment, Motorstorm and F1CE both great games but are quite limited in thier appeal. It would be a brave company to try and put out a JRPG next year if its not done by square IMO as the Final Fantasy series and the other SE IP have always sold better than any other PS2 JRPG. I think the deal with NCsoft will help shift many PS3s next year when there MMO games start to appear.
 
If the PS3 were to be better in any genre than Xbox360 it would be in gimmicky games such as Singstar, Guitar Hero, Buzz, etc...
It's also good at games like Ico, but Microsoft are pushing that now. One area Sony really excel is in it's platformers with Microsoft yet to make anything rival Jak & Daxter or Ratchet & Clank.

As shooters and racers are the 2 biggest genre's on the console market then I'd say Microsoft are doing the right thing, however on top of being superior in those, I would say Microsofts online arcade service has a whole bunch of classics that people want to play.

Gran Turismo is definitely the leading game, though none of them gripped me like the first one, it's still a great serious (though it lacks in comparison to PGR for fun for me - PGR2 is one of the finest games of all time). But a large section of Turismo buyers are the enormously bias Asian sector who won't buy Forza or PGR4 due to its American roots. I'd hazard that if you removed Asia from the equation and put Europe and America for PGR and Europe and America for Gran Turismo then it would be a lot closer than current statistics show it to be.

Condemned, CoD2 and Kameo. Three launch games which are superb and probably (imo) better than anything the PS3 has released in the past year. It's all based on opinions, but thats mine :)

If you discount the Japan sales for the GT franchise that only equates to about 12% of the PS2 GT sales ( i was surprised), with the ROTW and US being about equal. If you take the Japan sales of for the Xbox/360 driving games there is hardly a drop in the total ( no surprise TBH) but you get no where near the sales of just GT3 in the US with all the sales of PGR and Forza games sold worldwide. Thats how big GT is to Sony
