Life is tough at the top of the food chain.

I like the OP's style and Id love to cook fresh crab/lobster in this way, although id have the water actually boiling and Knife it before hand! Eating any shellfish out of a tin/processed in anyway is just wrong imo, makes my stomach turn just thinking about it.

A new fishmonger just opened down the road, mmm crab followed by Grilled sea bass :)

I've never said I won't eat crab? I just personally wouldn't go out of my way to buy one that's still alive, only to have to cook it myself.

As I said, I've had crab before :)

Same with fish, I wouldn't go and buy a live fish, kill it (however you 'humanely' kill a fish) then gut it and lop it's head off (if it's needed)...I used to work in a restaurant that gutted fish in front of me all the time, I was the one usually taking the scales and guts out the sink :p
 
I dunno about threads like this over the last couple of days, you'd have thought OCUK would be being a bit more careful about potentially aggravating sections of society by allowing threads like this to go by and seemingly condoning the activity, what with the recents attacks on the site. Fair enough the ratting business is not illegal, though rank amateurish crab boiling could be considered some sort of cruelty offence going by the description of the vid, but ocuk must surely realise a hefty portion of the population is going to recoil from this kind of stuff, even if it agrees with ocuk's personal views. God knows what the Animal Rights lot would try to do if this got about. Just sayin like.

it not illegal to cook a live crab,

and its not like the title of the thread implied anything different, it say cooking live crab, were you suprised when the Op cooked the crab live?
 
Personally i think the video is pure class.
The crab is going to be eaten however it dies... and the way you did it - i don't see any problem.

Can't wait to see 'Coking with Daveboy - Live Cow' - Should be awesome.

Where is this hefty percentage of the population. Nobody in this thread has 'recoiled in horror', it's had nearly 4000 views and we've yet to get a single person post how they 'recoiled'. Preparing dinner is a perfectly normal activity - get over it.

I'm sure they'd do nothing, its a video of a man making dinner with his tiiiiny girlfriend. You didn't hear Geoffrey complaining - they even let him do a bit of site-seeing on his way home and gave him a bath.

Don't really want to watch thanks m8. Others have said a) whacks it on a table to "stun" it. b) Puts it half in half out of a pan. c) of not exactly furiously boiling water. That's enough for me to decide I don't really want to watch it.
