Cooking with Daveyboy - Live Crab

You really think that the type of people who DDOS are the same type of people that strap themselves to the gates of animal research centres?

Oh I dunno, fini. They're not averse to a bit of grave desecration or digging up your granny. Some of them like to plant bombs in a family environment, too. I'd not put anything past them. A bit of DDoS seems tame compared to that. I digress, however.

Davey, you know what not to do next time :p Glad you enjoyed your dinner, have some stars :D

Oh don't get me wrong - they're clearly mentalists - just not the type that hack and do DDOS - crazy hippy and geek aren't usually used in the same sentence. ;)

This didn't seem awfully well planned. Tapping it on a counter was never going to do anything, I'd have thought you turn it upside down a bring the butt of a heavy knife down on it near the head if you wanted to knock it out. There is a product for it apparently if you do this a lot:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crustastun

Though the shock it administers could easily be fatal for a human even! I assume it's insulated to make accidents difficult...

Pan seemed far to small too, it shouldn't have been half in like that ever :(

Aside from anything, what even is the attraction of eating something like this? It looks awfully fiddly to eat, apparently has potentially fatal (!) parts on it and doesn't look like there would be a whole lot of it anyhow. Meh, I dunno, tuna and cod etc seem more logical.

Fair point well made, sir. That said the pasty-faced terrorists seem to culture in a rather varied cross-section of society, unfortunately. But I do agree, most of the soap dodgers are less than geeky ;)

It's tasty, fresh and (as far as I know) there are no fatal parts. I've had many a fresh lobster and crab in my time and I'm still around.

That said if you are going to do it make sure that the water is actually boiling, and that the pan is big enough so you can lob the whole thing in at once. I'm not sure about how crustaceans feel pain, but watching something thrashing about in a pan of hot water is not all that pleasant. Nor is seeing something hammered onto a worktop 3 times and not get knocked out-if you punch me 3 times you better make sure you knock me out, or I'm packing you off to the gym!

Aside from that it was an amusing video though....

And me.

Where's this going?

Just wondering how many people on here buy the proper stuff and don't go for the battery meat/eggs, etc.

Seems quite a few so far.

Like people have said, the OP fails at killing the crab properly, but it had a better life than most of the farmed animals in this country.

So does that mean my original point about the video was justified because I make sure my food comes from ethically farmed sources?

Am I off the hook?

What was you're original point? Sorry, I must have missed your post.

I'm not really trying to link crab killing with battery farming, just wondering how many people actually care about it (animal welfare) daily or whether they're just coming online to have a go.

They should have killed the crab better though, but its done now, so whatever.

Do you really? How very Good Life of you.

What do you have?

I don't any more. I had to get rid once we moved here as there's just no room :( Once we've moved and got a place with a bit more land I'll start keeping them again. We had black rocks, hisex rangers and light Sussex (a great dual purpose bird).
