CoolIT ECO A.L.C. and Corsair H50 Comparison / Review

I have been following this thread with great interest, but I have to say I share the scepticism raised by some other members. The original review says Eco vs H50 however we only see pictures of the Eco with no real evidence and then just a summary stating the Eco is substantially better.

Picture and information about the H50 can be added if you would like? I originally didn't include them because there are a number of other reviews out there of the H50 and very few of the ECO :).

No disrespect, but you stated in your thread title that this was a comparison. Surely in any comparison review, a level playing field with regards to available test info is a given? Equal spotlight is needed for anyone to make an informed decision in choosing the best product for their needs.

I have now written sections on the Corsair H50 which will be included when i update the review with testing results. I shall also add some photographs of the H50 in too :).

If anyone would like me to run any other tests, please let me know ASAP before i start testing the units tomorrow.

On a positive note, I have just completely rebuilt my system and it seems to be working ok now (I have put a hard drive in and it hasn't killed it!)

All I know is I have a H50 and it does exactly what I want it to do, my temps @ 3.8 on a Q6600 full load dont go above 50-55 after hours of prime, So tbh - no matter which you get there will be maybe a few deg diff, if that... so who cares - After looking @ the eco though it doesnt look as well made as the H50 but they are both not gonna last -aslong- as ppl will want them too because they are sealed units - unless you mod them etc.

Imo it really doesnt matter which one you buy, there wont be a great deal of diff - its personal pref and a few quid more. But I personally think the H50 is a better quality build than the Eco.

I don't know how you can say that the H50 is better built if you have never seen an ECO in the flesh! I would say the only noticable difference in quality between the units is that the H50 uses braided cables whereas the ECO doesn't. This is only likely to make a difference to the lifespan of the unit if you frequently move the unit from system to system - and even then there is only a small chance of the cable being damaged.

Well let's find out what the difference actually is instead of assuming that there won't be a significant difference between them because you're nowhere near the thermal threshold with your H50 when you're not pushing an overclock :)

New parts arrived this morning from OCUK and am just installing Windows. With the amount of time this benchmarking is going to take, there is no possibility that it will be finished today as there simply isn't enough hours! Should hopefully get it all finished by sometime tomorrow :).

I have seen it, hence "After looking @" and reading about - my friend has a eco he has already had to send 1 back, just bad luck I guess - and as for not pushing an overclock? dont you my Q6600 is meant to be 2.4ghz, 2.4 > 3.8 seems fair enough overclock to me? I dont get u maybe. but very few ppl can push 4ghz on a Q6600 lol depends on the cpu I guess.

I'm lookin forward to the results then, I can tell you now for nothing there wont be a - significant - difference, it doesnt take a weatherman to tell you its raining.

and to be honest, I think henry is bias towards the H50 just reading this thread. He certainly isnt independant.

Sorry guys - my new hard drive is now dead too after around an hour of usage. I'm unsure as to whats causing this as I have swapped PSU's and tried a different mobo and it hasn't helped :(. I would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions as to what might be the problem!

Sorry, I missed the Q6600 bit and assumed you were talking i7 :o

But 55ºC load with an H50 on a [email protected]? Volts and ambient temps please :)

Stop shaking the case when it's turned on? :D

Just got my Q6600 stable @ 3.6Ghz at 1.4v BIOS (1.36v windows) with a Thermalright VX + 2 Apache fans.

Side of case off core temps max out at 57°C running 5 loops of IBT.

Admittedly I may beable to lower the vcore, as I did just whack it at 1.4v and boot into Windows ;)

Hi Henry,

That does seem really odd... I would start by trying to determine whether its a power problem or a communication problem. Can you feel any vibration off the disks when you first power on the machine or are they bricky?

If they are moving it would point to configuration issue or problem with your bios, sata or raid controller possibly?

Can you put the drive as a non boot drive in another pc or in an external enclosure and see any data off it at all?

Not really my area of expertise - just trying to help.

It's most certainly a power problem - the burning smell being emitted from my cd drive attests to that. But a new power supply didn't fix the problem. Im stumped! The drives do not work in an external enclosure either - no spinning / vibrating / nothing :(

Helios1234 & JonJ678,

We're still looking to you as our saviour/source of conclusive comparative data.
Poor old Henry seems to having one catastrophic disaster after the other!

How are things progressing, do you still have plans for this?
No rush but a status update would be appreciated.

Thank-you very much.

I'll have the Corsair soon so I'll update when I get it :).
