Core 2 Duo or AM2 Advice?

this is not the point at all, the point is he has many threads open at one time saying he's buying all different things, so unless he is building 3 different systems its very confusing as to what he is actually buying half of the time.

Agreed

You dont need three threads in the gfx card section stating

shall i get a 7600 gt
shall i get a 7900 gs
shall i get an x1950 pro

one thread will do.

I made three threads regarding two different things, Advice on two Motherboards on the Socket 775 and one about choosing either Intel or AMD.

If the threads bother you that much simple answer is don't bother replying and let the thread die away simple as that.

I can't honestly see a problem with what's been done at the end of it all it came down to a result.

don't worry dude, you've made a good choise! I'd have (and did) go for the DS3 or DS4, but all are good.
expect around 3GHz+ from a E6300 with good ram, some have got 3.2-3.5+ (personaly I've about 3.22GHz here on the DS4 and 3.18GHz on the DS3) at just a little over stock volts.
don't forget that when you start your system up for the first time the ram may require more than the default 1.8V that motherboards supply.
if you want them to run at full speed at the correct timings then you may have to set it to 2.1 or +0.3V .

Lads, at stock speed there's not much in it between the 4400x2 and the C2D6300.

If you're not over clocking (and lets face it, most people don't) AM2 is the cheaper way, with a good future ahead of it. :)

If you're happy enough to risk an Overclock, than C2D all the away, again with a good future. :)

Personal situation is the key. Someone with an old 939 mobo might want to stick with it. Save a fortune by holding onto the old DDR ram. C2D/AM2 upgrades involve changing 3 components - its not cheap. :(

Now I know the original poster said he won't be overclocking, but however your statement is rather cringe-worthy.

To say a AM2 is a cheaper option compared to a Conroe is absolutely mental (Even if not overclocking, the ability IS there still) now I only have a E6300, but that's however been clocked to 3.3 Ghz Stable with no troubles, now last time I checked that is (as Holly would say) kicking bottom when compared to the Athlon FX-64 (I think that's the name) which is what? 450+ quid or so?

I went from a Athlon 64 3000+ / Geil Value 2GB@333 Mhz and these would not let me run BF2142 smoothly at Max with 4x AA (stuttered a bit with 2x AA) , loading times on BF2142 kick arse now also and it runs PERFECT on Max with 4x AA, and I can even have Supersampling and my graphics card set to High Quality!, it's like Zoom Zoom, like the Mazda advert!, Conroe kicks bottom!

AMD at this time make me giggle! :D

Anyway@ geepee, you can save a few extra quid by getting the S3 board instead of the DS3, I was told there is no difference except the DS3 has 'Solid Caps' (I'm not sure what that means however :P)

Are you for real?

I have said the INTEL is way better!

It is also a similar amount more expensive, what Conroe Mobo/Conroe can you get for 140squid?

I think you'll find that the AMD chip that performs close to E6300 speeds is the 4600X2 not the 4400x2
is there even a 4400x2?
anyway
OcUK stock 4600x2s at £140
they also stock the E6300 at £124 for retail or £110 for OEM (without heatsink)
so not only is the C2D £16 cheaper, its faster too.

Thats a fair point:-

3800x2 can be had for about 88quid though, which is the example ive been using(coupled with a £50 MSI board).

As we have admitted that the INTEL are faster it stands to reason that we have to go higher up the scale of AMD cpu's to reach a similar performance - this then makes no price advantage for AMD

Equally if a higher AMD chip is bought there is then no performance(at stock) advantage to Intel?

Neither argument can have it both ways?
