Correct amount of sleep...

Haha, FF, sorry to anger you with my snooze, but it's sooooo nice :D

It's the mentality of it. "I'm awake, but just 5 more mins of my nice warm cacoon" then BAM, you alarm has been going on for over 20 mins!!!

Other activities... Hmmm, I ride my motorbike for long periods of time on the weekend, and it's not exactly a cruiser so can be VERY demanding and always wears me out. During the week... Only the walking really.

You need a decent routine(like when you were a child)

I finish the night off with 10 mins sky news downstairs then turn all the lights off use the loo climb into bed and wake up in the morning.

I have a mate who can't get to sleep at night I asked him what his routine was. He watches TV in bed for hours before switching it off rolling over and staying awake.

His body doesn't know he's trying to get to sleep.

Also follow the 20 min rule. If your not asleep in 20 mins get up go and do something for 10 mins (not a run) and reset and try again.

Your body releases melatonin when it starts to go dark but sat infront of a bright TV or monitor will delay this. Without melatonin you aint gonna sleep. So lower the lights a bit too.

One last hint/tip.

Any changes wont cure all like a flick of a switch it may only take days but could take weeks to train yourself. After all its taken years for you to get to this stage.

Haha, that's exactly how I used to be. I think you sometimes fall in to a deeper sleep after hitting snooze.

I'm with Freefaller all the way now, straight out my pit as soon as I hear the alarm.

Try moving your alarm so you actually have to get out of bed to turn it off.

About 2330 - 0700, snooze, actually get up at 10 past. I bike to work which takes me no time at all. I live about a mile away.

On the day you were gonna be late could you not get a taxi? 2 mile £4 maybe?

Have you thought about getting a bike and saving yourself commute time?

I'm a terrible snoozer - well not snooze as such, but 13 separate alarms on the phone from 7am to 8am every 5 minutes.

I think if there was just one alarm at 7am I'd be more likely to get up but don't want to risk it.

I can say with some surety that I have woken up at 7am feeling refreshed and then just nodded off waiting for alarm #2 and by the time I get out of bed 40mins later I feel rough as ****.

Another technique is the old fap-snooze, always a winner.

IDo you do any other exercise? Maybe doing a bit of physical activity after work might help? Don't do exercise too late at night though as it'll keep you awake.

I have this problem.. If I train evenings I feel kind of sleepy when I'm home and chilled but I get a second wind just as i'm about to go to sleep. Everyone's different I guess.

How long before you go to sleep would you recommend not using the laptop or watching telly?

Everyone will be different but if you find yourself unable to sleep for a longish period after watching tv/using a computer you might want to leave anywhere between 15-30 minutes.

I hate that.

I need to start getting to bed early and stop burning the candle at both ends. Starts to take it out of you after years.

I start at the same time as the OP but take an hour to get to work. I usually go to bed at 12:30 get up at 6:50 and im usually quite tired in the morning but awake at night. Wish I could sleep earlier but I just cant.

I walk to work each day which is a round trip total of 4 miles exactly, it takes me 20 mins to walk each way.

Are you sure about those figures? You "walk" 2 miles in 20 minutes? That's 6mph, or 10-minute miles. That's a pretty decent jogging pace right there, and twice the usual brisk walking pace (which is ~3mph).

Anyway, I generally need 8hrs average. I can get away with 6hrs for a few days, or 4hrs for one night. When I was younger I could hammer away for days with little to no sleep, so long as I caught up a few days later. These days I can't seem to manage it - my brain just stops working properly if it hasn't had enough sleep!
