CORSAIR HYDRO H70 CPU COOLER - IN STOCK (BENCHMARKS INSIDE)

I would have thought you should be able to use your current mounting ring,as the H70's looks the same as the H50 rev 2 ring, also the Rev 1 ring is a lot better than the later rev 2 ring.

Hope so too. Tried the rev2 ring on other builds I did and I think it was made that way for wider socket compatability. Definitely prefer rev1. Should be here on Thur or Friday.

To be honest I have no idea if 4 cores run cooler or hotter than 6 cores:confused:

From what you say 4 cores should be cooler?????

Surely my i7920 is at or near the peak of its performance so maybe likely to run hotter???

Core for core the 920 is hotter however when you factor in two extra cores the 980X runs hotter, so overall your system will be cooler.

NathWraith - quick question on mounting.
Do you know if I will be able to use the H70 retention ring/screws to mount the pump onto the H50 backplate, or even use the H50 ring/screws on the H70 pump ?

The H70 bracket is exactly the same as the Rev 2 H50 bracket. Not sure on compatibility with the Rev1 bracket as I didn't have any around to test but I would say no, it won't be compatible with your bracket.

If you are finding it hard to remove the bracket (cos of the sticky pads) just keep twisting and turning, use a heat gun if you can to loosen the stickyness of them.

Thanks NathWraith. Still, if the H50 Rev2 bracket is the same as the H70 bracket, that implies the H70 pump has the same notches as the H50 pump. And as a H50 pump can fit a H50 Rev1 or Rev 2 backplate/bracket, that would imply a H70 pump should also :) Unless there is some other feature on the H70 bracket that is not on the H50 Rev 2 bracket which is required. I guess I will find out :)

Thanks for the tip on backplate removal.

Too expensive :L, i found cheaper sources up further north.. almost £10's cheaper and free delievery.

Is no one worried that the barbs seem to be plastic this time round? I've seen photos online of some of the plastic CoolIT barbs starting to break and I was thinking of getting a H70 for my first foray into water-cooling (I've been thinking of a full water-cooled rig, but I'm scared to jump into it. The H70 seems a good mid-point to jump from).

The barbs are not plastic on the rad where the tubes fit on there is alloy underneath if thats what you mean?

Also the 90 degree elbows on the pump swivel to stop the tubes getting too tight a bend on them when you position the rad in the case.

Fitted mine this morning here are a couple of photos, yes they are not the stock fans on the rad they are a couple of Vipers.

Cheers hope this helps :)

Forgot to mention because the Ft02 pulls air in at the bottom and its pushed out of the top, the H70 is pulling air out of the case as well, didnt want to mess with the airflow as it cools the motherboard really well.

Cheers

Quick Q, i currently have a tuniq tower 120, the backplate is stuck on and I'm guessing its gonna be very hard to remove it, can i use the backplate with this cooler at all?

re:

Hi all, To be totally honest, I am generally disappointed with the temps..I would certainly not recommend anyone who already has a H50 to upgrade as it just not a viable upgrade:(

Basically you can get better cooling than the H50 if you have both the corsair fans running at 2000rpm but that just not an acceptable level of noise :(

Running at 2000rpm drops my temps around 4c but running at 1600rpm is within far better sound levels but no different temp wise from my H50:eek:

Basically if you were to put two 2000rpm fans on your H50, I guess you would still see the 4c drop so there really is no point at all upgrading from the H50.

I guess it's arguable that the paste will need time to cure.

Cheers all
A disappointed mrix :(

I've got the same case as you, plus just received my H70, didn't think it would be that big..!

What temps are you getting? I'm upgrading from a H50 with Viper fans so will post my results when I get them.

P.S. I'm keeping the H50 to put in another rig I'm building, so the H70 wasn't a *total* waste of money!

Right, just got home and installed it, took the two Vipers off my H50 and put them on the H70.

I'm running my 920 D0 with a 1.272 vcore getting 4.2GHz, my old H50 would reach a max temp of 87-89c but with this I'm getting temps of 80c when running Prime95. So thumbs up from me :)

Any screenshot show us temperature please ? Also is it intake or exhaust fan out to the rear ?

Glad to hear u happy with it!

Bulldog147 - why do you have to question everything anyone posts about hardware, if danielanthony states its knocked 7-9 degrees off, why do you need proof? I have already deleted one of your posts in this thread today.

Please try not to start a flame war!

@roman59

Im guessing you didnt try the stock fans then? Also how quiet is the pump, my old h50 did whine a little, im guessing the supplied fans are 3pin connectors also so I could put on my fan controller if req?

Thanks

A disappointed mrix :(

So the NH-D14 would have been a better choice.

Couple of things Mrix, u compared the 2 using 2 different types of fans, also the thicker rad won't necessarily reduced idle temps, but it will help reduce load temps.

Idle testing is'nt really the best measure of a cooler, you really should have tested both using the same fans on both, and full load testing.

I did have to laugh at the cat though, it was like WTF is this thing getting near me lol.

I ran the IntelBurnTest on Max 5 times to give a fair example:

I have mine installed the same way, and in the same case, as roman59.

I was getting up to 89c with my H50 with the same fans.
