Could you do this.

hehe - well, i'd probably say i would, then, when Sunday afternoon comes round for the footy, forget and go on a 14pint bender (thats whats been happening lately!)

I've contemplated giving up beer for a month (still drinking spirits etc) to lose a bit of weight. Ha! Failed that too!

Its not the alcohol i love (tho i dont dislike it ;) ) its being out, socialising with mates, speaking to women/other people and just generally having an amazing time.

I just absolutely am addicted to being out and socialable - unfortunately, being a 20-something male - being socialable generally involves drinking beer simultaneously!

Is there a real reason of worry for him to suggest it? or more of an advisory as it was over the recc'd amounts?

I have the theory that binge drinking once/twice a week is actually better for you than drinking 2-3 a day every day as that doesnt allow you're body to ever have a break from metabolising alcohol. Personally i drink at weekends only abuse my body for 2 days, then throughout the week i drink water mostly, and this i think gives my body a chance to purge of toxins...

no it doesn't - if you can't have a good time without alcohol then I would have a think tbh.

It really depends to what extent you drink. i.e; quantity.
Booze is bad for us we know. But if you're like me and like it, a Lot, then you're half way there to becoming an alcoholic, hic.
I don't really know what I'm trying to say. I suppose in answer to your question I would struggle - really struggle, not quite the late great Georgie Best (RIP) sort of struggle but it would be very far from easy to do. The key thing to hang on to would be that my doctor had advised it. He knows more about my health than I do and he's not being a killjoy he's got my interests at heart, so, yeah, I think I'd manage but only just.
Cheers,

Not hard for me I don't drink. Mainly for two reasons.

1) I can't due to a medical condition whch I won't go into detail on
2) I don't like the taste of the stuff so whats the point lol

I stopped, went a good couple of years without drinking.

It was as easy as "im not drinking again" and that was that. I drink occasionally now, but not to excess.

Easy easy :)

If I'm thirsty I'll get water (ok usually orange or something). if I want to feel happy happy joy joy I'll get a beer!

There seem way too many teetotals in here compared to.. well, my friends I suppose. There are only two or three out of the 25-odd in our 'crowd'

I am the only one out of all of my mates that doesnt drink. Doesnt stop them mercilessly asking if I want a beer though!

Like i said i am going to cut down to what i think is a reasonalbe amount, i am also (more importantly imo) sorting out my diet and excersise.

I enjoy going out and socalising and have friends at the pub, so i will only drink when i am out there and not have a beer when i am in, should be easy to do that way. :)

do as your doctor says dont try getting around it, if he says its better to cut out the drinking do it.

its better for your health. and your diet isnt more important right now than your drink.

Guess I'd have to if my health was in question. At the moment the only reason to stop drinking would be my weight - but then whats next, curries, pies, bacon

I really enjoy a drink, and I mean really - it's one of my pleasures in life, but I only drink good bottles of ale, and tend to switch around and try things I've not heard of, generally only a couple an evening and I don't touch anything cheap, it doesn't taste nice.

If I can't afford it, I don't drink it - I couldn't do what some people do and drink cheap cider or value lager, rather have a cup of tea tbh.

While having a day off the booze every week is good for you (gives the liver a break), have a pint every day is virtually good for you (depends what it is though), having 7 pints in one night is terrible for your long term health.

I wouldn't call 2-3 moderate though, 1-2 maybe.
