So glad I don;t have to pay council tax. Here in Switzerland there is a property tax, since i rent and don't own mans no taxes on my home.

Liverpool City Council +3.0%
Merseyside Pcc +7.2%
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Auth +3.0%
Social Care Precept +3.0%

I get shafted for an extra 6% in total. :(

Leicester city council's letter said the government had imposed restrictions regarding the maximum rise in council tax of up to 6%.

So they've raised it by.... you guessed it. 6%.

Greedy *******.

I miss the council tax in Westminster, £65/month. Now in Surrey and it's £130ish. I don't miss the rent however.

Yeah it is something like that here though I don't have exact details to hand - the increase is like 5.9973%

It's not greed that is pushing councils to raise council tax by the most, it's the cuts from central government. Most councils are struggling to run basic services. Most of the increases are only just keeping up with inflation.

This is Southampton City:

Southampton City Council
(Increase of 2.9% on last year)

Southampton City Council*
(Increase of 3.0% on last year)

Police and Crime Commissioner for Hants
(Increase of 7.2% on last year)

Hampshire Fire Authority
(Increase of 2.9% on last year)

*The Council Tax attributable to Southampton includes a precept to fund adult social care.

A total 6.0% increase.

Is your commissioner the same as mine David Keane? The commissioner who keeps hiring friends and family of friends on high wages?

Yeah looks like it. Wasn't aware of this, but google threw him up. We used to get a free local newspaper through the door to find issues like this but I don't think they can get the distributors any more.

The London Borough of Hillingdon who proudly proclaims that they haven't raised council tax in 10 year has by a whole one percent (but not for the local authority part).

London Borough of Hillingdon 0.0%
Greater London Authority 5.1%

We aren't charged a precept for adult social care, so that ain't listed.

IIRC 4.9% for Birmingham. If I get a 4.9% increase in bin collections and pothole repairs I'll be happy with that, saying that, if 4.9% of bin collections and potholes repairs actually happened then it would be an improvement!!

Birmingham City Council - 3.0%
Adult Social Care - 1.0%
Fire and Rescue Authority - 3.0%
West Midlands PCC - 10.3%
Total - 4.5%

10.3%!!!!!!!

TEN POINT THREE PERCENT!!!!!!!

I don't quite get how that's possible to increase so much. WMFS looked at increasing above 3% last year or the year before, I can't remember which. But they would have to do a full on public consultation and essentially a referendum to increase above the cap which worked out it would cost more than what they'd get back from increasing above 3%.

Is the increase for the Police and Crime Commissioner just a salary hike, or are there other expenses?
