Exactly what the one in my E39 had and it was absolutely excellent for the task - being a dedicated Satnav/Radio not a pointless over specified gimmicky toy.

Once the novelty of having Android and 400,000 pointless apps on your dashboard wears off you'll just want radio, music and Satnav that just 'works'.

OK so, how was it to use? :) Speedy? Any crashes? Startup time? (the head unit not the E39 :p)

Most of them are two units in one - the Windows CE side for Navigation and a proprietary side for Music etc. They boot simultaneously and you hit 'Nav' to swap between the two.

This means the radio comes on instantly and mine was set up to autoload my choice of Navigation software such that by the time I had got in, turned the key, put my seatbelt on and pressed 'Nav' it had begun booting the Nav software and I never actually saw Windows CE.

It worked well enough - none of these units are perfect and the radio interface was rough around the edges.

Check iceboxauto - the windows units they provide are pretty well regarded. They're UK based so you get a proper point of contact and they test prior to shipping.

I had an android unit from them which was fine in some ways but a bit rubbish in others - I did end up returning it but with absolutely no hassle from them. So if it's the sort of thing you're after then I'd reccomend them

It also looks exceedingly rubbish. :p

Windows CE 6.0, 800MHz ARM11, and 256MB of RAM?

£200 is a joke for that thing. If it were £100 I might be slightly more tempted. :p

Is this the same? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-DVD-G...e660fce&pid=100005&rk=2&rkt=6&sd=171350247962

It is up for 140 on there i just linked the first one but it will look oem and fit perfectly and do everything you want it to do. After market double din looks a bit odd on the e12.

If you need android take your phone out of your pocket and use it. That's what it is for!

I can't see one for 140? :(

A few observations for the day!

The fuel gauge is pretty useless, it has gone down to about half way after 80 miles. If I am getting the 29~ MPG average that the computer suggests, then I should get 350 miles out of the tank.

The currently fitted tyres are beyond ridiculously bad on damp roads, they can break grip in first, second, and third if you put your hoof down on a straight road... Need those new tyres fitted asap!

The clutch slave cylinder is squeaky, which is apparently a very common issue. Will get that looked at. :)

There appear to be markers on the head unit for "navigation" and "re-route" and such, but as far as I can see there is no navigation functionality?

Oh and I left a cocky sod in a barry'd E46 (323i maybe?) standing, which was good fun. He was at the lights revving his engine next to me while I was just sitting there waiting, so I thought "I'll have you mate!" - bet that surprised him! :D

On a private road of course. :o

You can get android ones for the E12 corolla as well but obviously they are more expensive but if playing angry birds on your dash is something you want give it a go.

I do not know if the Corolla has the same slave as the ST205 GT-Four but mine also squeaks but a quick spray of white grease normally does the trick for a few months.

Make sure you don't get busted razzing it around Acme :) A copper can soon make you look cocky and bring you back down to earth with a bang like you thought you did to the BM driver :) Glad you're enjoying it but it's all too easy to not have enough time to look around you properly when you've got a load more power than you're used to at hand.

Oh sorry, I was wondering if that one was different as the interface looks worse in the images, and the button layout is very very slightly different? :)

And thanks Stormster, I'll try my best to be a bit careful... The BMW encounter was at about 11PM on an empty dual carriageway though. :)

Oh dear, if it really as a 325i (what is a 323i?) and he was actually trying to race, then no you wouldn't have left him "standing".

Ah yes, that one!

I just find it strange how people say they "left someone standing", perhaps i have a different definition in my head, to me it means they are a little dot in your rear-view mirror.

Anyone who has had a car with any real power will know it takes a significant power advantage to leave someone for dead, cars with similar power / 0-60 times within a few seconds simply don't leave "someone standing".

I remember thinking i was 10 men out dragging other cars when i got my first fast ish car (Honda DC5) but then after having fast cars for a bit you realise that most hot hatches will hardly pull away from most diesel rep mobiles if both of you put your foot down.

You need a really big horsepower advantage to really destroy someone in a straight line.

Then you get to a corner...

I was just pointing out how you laughing at corsa is all relative... no-one is top of the traffic light GP food chain (or at least unlikely to be top unless you have deep pockets)

I think I've long since grown out of it.... but not to say if I didn't bag myself the new Tesla I'd have a lot of fun with insane mode :)
