Cover versions that improve the original

Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head - Manics

Rush Hour - Joyrider

Wuthering Heights (Kate Bush) - China Drum

Take On Me - Reel Big Fish

Have to agree, most (note-not all) songs after the Black album arn't as good as there earlier stuff IMO :but it suits a different market, thats why they are probally the most well known metal band.

[OUTLAW]tiermat: I am a big fan of Zakk Wylde and BLS but never heard any of the Pride and Glory stuff. Just downloaded War Pigs, its quality. Will have to get the album.

I like both versions of the following songs, but how about....

The Jam - David Watts (Kinks)

I wouldn't say that the next one is better as such (it is Hendrix after all!), but is still a nice version from a time when Rod made some decent enough records. Its a more rocky version than the original.

Rod Stewart - Angel (Jimi Hendrix)

Flame away! LOL :p

ultraviolence - paranoid (sabbath)

lol, bit of an obscure one.. and in fact its nowhere near better than the original but i just thought i would name it as it makes me laugh :D

Sepultura covered "Symptoms Of The Universe" which was originally doen by Sabbath.
Very funky and a big improvement over the original, in my humblest of opinions. :)

apocalyptica - The unforgiven

although i would probly say it`s as good rather than better, i just really like the way it sounds on chellos.

Yes that is a really good cover. Its amazing how they get master of puppets to sound so good on chellos too. Until it sleeps is one of my fav apocalyptica covers.

NoooooooOoooo way!!

NIN not even in the same league as Joy Division. IMHO Joy Division were one of a kind and nothing comes even close.

As for a cover version, how's about Anvil and Paint It Black? :D

Don't get me wrong I like the JD version too! It's just there's something more stompy and danceable about the NIN version that I prefer. I think Joy Division are a better band than NiN/Trent, but I just prefer the treatment of that one song :p

i like it, maybe because it is different to the others - i dont know, have you seen the video for it? If you've seen the end and then think of the lyrics..its a bit odd imo..

why oh why didnt i think of that one too?? :)

another one for the list, Godheads cover of Eleanor Rigby (i alwys getting shouted at by die-hard beatles fans for this one :) )

I bought the Godhead album on the strength of that track. It's probably one of 2 tracks that standout for me :p

Yeah I liked Godhead's version of ER too...

Muse - House of the Rising Sun
Muse - Feeling Good
Children of Bodom - The trooper.
Ben Folds - Tiny Dancer
Ben Folds - Video killed the Radio Star

Stereophonics - Handbags and gladrags
Beatles fans Look away now :-
Stereophonics And Jools Holland - Revolution
The Doors - House of the rising sun **goes to check outs Muse's cover version**

Thin Lizzy's version of Whiskey in the jar is far better than mettalica's :)

If someone had suggested to me that you could do metal on chello`s before i first heard apocalyptica`s stuff i might well have laughed, but they pull it off so well it`s amazing to say the least.

The man's crazy. Hearing those whining pillocks Oasis singing that song completely ruined it.

Oh yeh and before i forget.

Mighty Mighty Bosstones - The Impression that I Get

I think this is a cover. Could be wrong tho :/

Another one I've just remembered is a whole album of covers - the soundtrack to Less than Zero (an obscure '80's film about the rich elite in Cali. Had covers such as Slayer - In a Gadda Da Vida (Iron Butterfly), Aerosmith - Rocking Pneumonia (dunno who did this originally) and many many more. Poison - Rock and roll all night (KISS), and The Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter (Simon and Garfunkle) also appear on the CD.

Hunt it out if you can, you won't be dissapointed!!!!

NOT Garage INC. but Garage Days RE-Revisited (but then some posters on here would be too young to remember those days!!!!! :-))
