COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

UK is average for deaths in Europe - given the public have made it clear they don’t want to pay the Covid debt back I don’t see what else the UK could have done without making more debt.

What do you intend to do with your crying and rage?

Can we just ban this guy from the thread already? Sick of his obvious baiting attempts.

Do the antibody tests have a timescale? Or if you've had it even 2 years ago it'll show up on the tests? I did one of the antibody tests when delta was around but would a test now still show it up?

Other than doing one of those lft things (which I do before going into the office, but they give you a handful when you're there) is there any way of knowing if you've had it or have it?

That's why I'm interested in those antibody tests, can they tell what variants you've had? I'm sure I must have had it just through exposure but am one of these lucky people that are completely asymptomatic - but that sucks as it means I could spread it without realising - but I don't want to test daily as it's a faff and would end up costing a fair bit since I'm out and about every day.

No, eventually antibodies will drop below detectable levels, so you wouldn't be able to discover if you had an infection in 2020 or early 2021. Would probably still catch Omicron infections from last year, though.

Makes sense. Frustrating though it would be interesting to know in real time your exposure to it. I guess that'll be the future of medicine seeing real time info of your immune system.

Either critique the factual content of my post or use the ignore function - if anything the tears and rage nonsense from the guardian was baiting.
Greatly improve ventilation through HEPA air purifiers and validate them with CO2 monitors, free or subsidised testing, routine testing of sewage water to determine hotspots, increased surveillance of new variants (not winding down the programme), educating the public on the benefits of high quality FFP2+ masks and provided everyone a number of free government approved ones, dropping the patents on vaccines and sharing technology and expertise to enable poorer countries with very low vaccination rates to greatly boost this which reduces the opportunity for new variants to emerge. Fund the development of better vaccines and treatments properly (make the treatments more widely available) and extend the booster programme to anyone who wants one. Is that enough?

lol lots of ’free’ and ‘fund’ in there - who exactly is paying?

It is called investment.

Who pays for the things you require that others dont require?
It would also protect against future pandemics, things like a significant investment in improved ventilation will take pressure off the NHS for the current pandemic, future pandemics and for other respiratory illnesses like the flu. This will save money, health and lives.

Don't see what option we have apart from investing even more into a health care system that can cope with this year round. A decent base level of sick pay wouldn't hurt either so people can take time off.

The hopes of this being a seasonal illness appear to diminishing as Omicron is quite happy throwing new sub variants at us that get around immunity from a prior infection. Unless the new vaccines can put a lid on that then the NHS will be dealing with Winter level pressures all year round.

You mean like the £400bn 'invested' in covid already? The £400bn the public have no interest in paying off along with the recent NI increase to fund the NHS which went down like a bag of sick? I take it you are all magic grandpa fans...

What do you even mean by that though?

Does that include the Labour and SNP governments in Wales and Scotland too?

AFAIK they were all generally useless, the vast majority of politicians and pundits managed to get the initial response wrong but I'm not sure what about that is necessarily criminal or what you expect to be done about it now?
I see you got no response to this - not surprising.

That is the fault of many of what should be criminal acts commited by the Tories that should be investigated.

It wasnt invested it was given to their friends, donors and some one that runs a pub.

Maybe in the guardian spoon fed conspiracy world of tears and rage that you inhabit - the police were quite happy to investigate 5 mins of happy birthday so I'm sure they would oblige if you made a complaint? You have done something about this haven't you??

The weather suits this bloke, he's on form today ;) I remember when the money looked to be stopping for those unable or unwilling to work, there were great cries of joy and the wish for Sunak to be PM next after Boris. But Sunak stabbed him in the back, again the Left gave forth ululations of joy, but wait, is a more Right leaning PM on the horizon to thwart their impetuous celebrations? ;)
