COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Remember Margaret Ferrier, the MP who tested positive and still travelled around the UK? She's getting sentenced today and has done an impressive job of ignoring everyone's hope she would do the right thing and resign.

Edit - apologies, she already has been. 270 hours of community service.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the article itself - but there has definitely been a widespread up tick of this kind of stuff. The most likely culprit being COVID itself.

From what I've read Covid itself does seem to be the more likely cause.

I'm still worried what the long term effects of multiple Covid infections will have on us long term, I know people that have had it three times now, I'm just getting over my second bout, if you're an adult now aged around 30 today how many more times might you contract Covid before your demise, 20? 30 times? There just doesn't seem to be much talk about this, I know life carry's on but I still think we are in a very precocious situation, we have millions of people with long Covid now, surely that will one worsen as time goes on.

Indeed, great points. If only the government had seen sense and decided to invest in a programme of improving ventilation significantly in indoor spaces, this alone would help bring down the number of infections and take pressure off the NHS for all respiratory illnesses current and future.

They are also not investing in treatments and the budget for vaccination programmes has had an axe taken to it. This is all highly counterproductive if we are to be stuck in the hell of constant Covid and potentially interminable new variants that they helped construct for us.

Well, two of my close family members are still ill and testing positive eleven days later (despite being in very good health and being fit for their age). One has lost half a stone in weight in that time. Thankfully I only saw them outside just before they started to feel ill, so I didn't get it. This illness is no joke and they are among the lucky ones who haven't developed pneumonia.

Parents asked to apply for new booster -
Do most health services, as Cambridge does, have a local jab booking system(with additional venues&times) in addition to the National NHS one. ?
Parents are in Norfolk; in Cambridge I had received via text, a personalized link into local booking system, parents don't really do texts, so I wondered if they are missing out.

Yet more good news,

Risk for Developing Alzheimer’s Disease Increases by 50-80% In Older Adults Who Caught COVID-19

There is so much we still don't know about this virus.
There are going to be a many lawsuits against our negligent politicians in the future I think.

Other studies showed that people with dementia were twice as likely to develop severe covid, so there’s a good chance that it’s improved diagnosis following hospitalisation, especially when you’re talking about most of the risk being concentrated in women over 85 according to the study.

Obviously I don't know what and how much went on behind the scenes but I've found it frustrating how little interest there seemed to be right from the start in actually understanding the disease and even months later our response was still based around early reports from Wuhan from variants which had essentially ceased to exist.

To those that say China's continuing lock downs are merely due to the arrogance and intransigence of its leader, I counter with saying I am still uncomfortable with this. I continue to be slightly troubled by the thought they have a much deeper understanding of the potential of these virus mutations. I don't consider myself an alarmist or hypochondriac, but neither do i think the Chinese leaders are crackers...

Given the vast economic impacts at a time when China is trying to negotiate already troubled economic waters it is quite odd. Even with the potential issues that their healthcare system and demographics vs COVID make for an especially challenging situation if COVID was to spread more generally.

The China situation is perplexing. They have no qualms about locking up and starving to death hundreds of thousands, if not millions of their own population (Uyghurs) and seemingly no issues with disappearing dissenters both there and Hong Kong while having the worlds highest rate of prisoner executions yet look determined to stamp out what is little more than a cold to the vast majority of people no matter what the financial implications and stunted economic growth implications may be. They clearly think they know something we don't.

I'm useless on my phone for linking but the World Health Organisation have just put out a statement that the end of Covid is not far away.

I can't claim to know what their reasons are, but an authoritarian state like China could be imposing draconian restrictions on their citizens just because that's how they roll. It's a good way to remind people who's in charge.

Funnily enough I don't have any faith in the WHO with regard to their position on both the start and perceived end of this pandemic.

At the start I wish I had taken a screen shot of a 7 point statement they put out regarding Covid where they saying stay 1 metre apart and it wasn't transmissable by air.
People on here didn't believe me because they changed it about two weeks later.
To be honest things will change the moment you know more.
