COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Incredibly wasteful and expensive behaviour, he is not a hospital worker and doesn't need the stringent requirements they have there. Studies have long proved they can be reused a number of times, and even the CDC will say they can be reused up to 5 times in a hospital setting if there are shortages.

Mindlessly quoting specs does nobody any good.

If you want proper protection you use it properly.

The whole one time usage thing really applies to hospitals where there is a serious risk of cross contamination. Otherwise, you can safely reuse them multiple times and not worry too much about it, the filters don't degrade that quickly. IMO, you could safely get a week or two out of a single mask as long as the seal is intact. There were quite a few studies into mask reusability during the pandemic, and none of them really concluded that you can't reuse masks. Plus, infection through a contaminated surface is very low risk with COVID as we have since discovered.

Personally, I use mine for a couple of weeks at a time and have never had COVID.

Aye I've worn FFP3 masks until they've basically fallen apart and I've yet to contract covid either. Couldn't afford to do otherwise at the height of the pandemic they were selling for abolutely silly money if I'd tossed them away after every use my finances would have collapsed faster then if Kwasi Kwarteng were in charge of them!

I have also yet to contract COVID (despite at least one guaranteed major exposure event I know of), and I reuse masks often. I'm glad the actual evidence agrees with our anecdotes as well, contrary to what gubby wants to believe.

But, as I mentioned before, you'll probably get longer usage time out of valved masks since they're not getting so grubby with moisture from your breath.

Plenty of people that don't wear masks haven't had it yet either. If you're happy doing what you do then that's fine but it doesn't prove one way or another that it's the effective way of doing it.

It sure doesn't, if you completely fail to read the parts of my posts where I mentioned what the CDC and experts say, but you do you.

Technically, if none of you are doing fit testing before wearing the masks then nobody is getting full effectiveness from them, and if you know how to fit test, you should be perfectly aware of when it is time to ditch a mask after reusing.

When should companies/organisations stop blaming Covid for closure/reduction in services? A (essential) shop near me is closing later this year due to Covid.
I don't imagine they're just saying "closing due to COVID". What type of shop is it and what specifically are their reasons for closure?

This kind of mild cold like thing seems to be going around more generally - seeing varying reports as to whether people are testing positive for COVID or not with it - but symptoms seem to be the same (albeit most colds pretty much have similar symptoms). One of my cousins (doesn't live near me) has a very strong line on the rapid test positive for COVID.

If I see someone with a mask on (rarely for months now), I assume they have covid/flu rather than trying to prevent catching it.
Following a covid positive then 10 days isolating then a negative, I reentered supermarkets wearing a mask for two days to protect others in case I was still shedding virus.

I am retired so did not need to go into work and just exhibited an abundance of caution.
