COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Thanks. It would be interesting to do one of those tests every month and see how quickly the infection induced antibodies and the t-cell numbers dropped over time.

My test was done about two weeks ago and we both caught Covid in October of last year.
So not bad I suppose that I have some antibodies left.

Triple jabbed.
Never tested positive for COVID before.
Supposed to have an operation on my hand today.
Positive today.
Operation cancelled.
Pretty sure I picked it up at the hospital last week as that's the only time I've left the house apart from the drive through test centre :(

Loads of people I know are now getting it, I hope you get better quickly and screw the government for inflicting this on us and not doing their job.

Only taken 2 years but finally got me :D woke up this morning with a runny nose and headache after just having recovered from a week long cold the day before. Did a test and positive, daaayum. Right pain in the backside

Going well then...

Six hospitals have issued a joint warning for people to stay away from emergency departments except for in "genuine, life-threatening situations".

The announcement was made after a surge in attendances left some patients waiting for up to 12 hours.

Hospital trusts across West Yorkshire and Harrogate in North Yorkshire - an area covering more than 2.5 million people - said that due to current pressures they were forced to prioritise patients presenting with acute illness or injuries.

Dr Andrew Lockey, emergency medicine consultant with Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, said: "It's really important that people only come to an accident and emergency department if they really need to.

"Our hospitals are extremely busy, and people are having to wait a long time to be seen.

"Over the past two weeks we've faced huge challenges with the sharp uplift in the number of people attending accident and emergency.

"This places additional pressure on our teams who are responsible for treating patients with serious and life-threatening conditions."

The clinical director of a hospital in Lancashire previously said patients were regularly waiting more than two days for a bed.

"For the past few months we have on a regular basis had more than 50 patients waiting for a bed and that wait being in excess of 60 hours," Graham Ellis, the clinical director of Royal Preston hospital, told executives in a letter leaked to the Health Service Journal.

He added: "We have witnessed senior experienced staff crying with frustration and anger as they have had to resuscitate patients in the waiting room, examine in the viewing room and CT changing room, seen patients leave the department as they have been pulled out of a cubicle to allow someone more unwell to be treated in their former space and patients die without the dignity of privacy."

West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts said its most recent figures show a 14.2% increase in attendance compared with the same week last year.

Shanghai has been put into a full lockdown again, 20+ million people I think I heard them say.

China really are going to have a hard time with this zero Covid policy now that the virus is entrenched in the rest of the world.

Makes you think if they are going to keep on doing this while the rest of the world moves on dealing with it.

On another note, this is going to effect my project I'm trying to roll out for our Chinese offices

My other half is on a mini-break in Gran Canaria with her mother. They fly back late tomorrow evening. Still testing negative but looks like her mother has caught it.

Some poor sods are gonna be sitting near to her on the flight back.

I wish people would drop this attitude of the "waaaaah the governments meant to keep me safe!!!111" Your safety is your responsiblity, no one elses.

Besides, shouldnt you be blaming the chinese government, seeing as it came their obsession with ******* around with animals, or a lab.....

Still flogging that dead horse? no Boris and chums are not to blame, they did everything right (sarcasm)

Why do we have speed limits then? I mean it’s my responsibility to drive at a speed I consider safe right?

the problem is people are dumb and without laws and restrictions life itself would be total carnage

The government have removed *all* coronavirus measures and told us all it's our responsibility. If this is to work I wish they would leave the following "personal, resoponsible" measures for us:

1) Working from home. If our employers allow it. Stop the "get back to the office". We all know the motives here
2) Provision of free or subsidised LFT and PCR tests so we can make the informed decisions
3) Improve sick pay (yeah I'm being vague) to stop people choosing between infecting others at work as opposed to going cold/hungry
4) Stop the government rhetoric of "masks do nothing". Being friends is the best mitigation apparently
5) Continued financial support of the monitoring of variants and the ONS study
6) Full publication of the lessons learnt and what they are putting in place to ensure they are indeed learnt
7) Give parents a chance by trying to do at least something about school infection rates (ventillation?)
8) Continuation of the vaccination programme

So regardless of failures of the government past, there are still ongoing failures.

As usual, they think it's gone away when it patently has not.

ETA, it's unlikely the current virus flavour will kill you (if you've been sensible and had your jabs or you are young and fit enough not to care), but it will certainly ruin your holiday.

Would be interesting to know how many of those unvaccinated deaths are actually immuno-comprimised people that couldn't get vaccinated, given they were one of the worst impacted co-morbidities.

From what I've seen of American stats and from American doctors not enough to make that sort of difference, bear in mind that most immuno-compromosed people will probably be taking other precautions, whilst the anti vaxxors have a massive overlap with those who won't wear masks or take any other precautions.

IIRC the difference is very noticeable at the voting district/area level where the Republican leaning areas are both much more likely to have more unvaccinated people, and much higher covid hospitalisations and deaths, with the bigger the proportion of the vote being republican the bigger the difference :(
