COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

So people still taking vaccines? My GF has one due today but don't know what to advise her? is there any truth all these 'wild' stories floating around on 'X'?

No idea about wild stories I don't use social media. However vulnerable and older people are still taking the vaccine which is probably sensible if you're in that category.

Why would you need to advise her at all, is she not capable of making her own informed choices? And yes, people are still getting vaccinated, we have a staff vaccine centre set up at work in one of the OP clinics.

Her choice isn't informed on this matter to be fair, why is why she asked me, you type in 'Pfizer' into facebook or 'X' and you're told Albert Bourla is genuinely a reptile, and videos showing that he hopes half the population is dead lol, obviously that is the extreme whacko stuff, lots of other head scratching stuff out there. I think this thread would provide a much more informed response than that lot, I'm not here to tell her she can't take the vaccine, but if there has been some genuine developments uncovered I like to tell her, also just gauging people's opinion on here to see if it's changed much as I'd say overall this forum was very pro vaccine in the past, myself included.

there is a considerable amount of miss information on both sides but similarly a lot of significantly under reported information in relation to excess deaths (which are off the scale) and the amount of consistent and often serious side effects that many have suffered as a result of the vaccines.

I am not advocating one way or the other - I took my jabs like a good boy however, I am also not so narrow minded as to simply accept one side of things.

i would suggest that given the significantly less pathogenicity of the current strain of covid, one must take a balanced view based solely on risk as to whether a completely fit and healthy person requires another vaccine when compared to someone who is considered vulnerable and who perhaps most certainly should consider one.

it should be your choice and very much a considered one.

What has been shown time after time in multiple studies now is that natural immunity far far far exceeds the effectiveness and longevity of any jab that has or is currently being offered.

If she's vulnerable then yes she probably should. If she's young fit and healthy then I don't see the point but ultimately it's her choice.

Don't use social media. Find reputable sources like the BMJ and others.

Whilst there seems to be some more information out there that the vaccines are not as safe as they are purported to have been if you're a vulnerable or immunocompromised person you're still undoubtedly better off taking it than not.

It's still pro Vaccine, just several people who'd rather believe Albert Bourla is genuinely a reptile stories.

I work in a Trust Legal Department and I can honestly tell you that we have never had a case of somebody dying from having a vaccine but we have had a few staff members who have become very poorly from receiving the vaccine.
However this is something can happen with any vaccine, the majority will sail through them and a tiny minority will have problems.
I'm actually wondering whether to have my Covid jab because I've just come out of Covid and have got to wait a bit but I'll definitely have the flu jab.

Just go with what you believe is the right thing to do

Personally wouldn't go near the stuff but there are lots that want it so crack on

I've also not been poorly from not taking it but i believe there is a chance you could be poorly from having it

Something to remember, if you ever see a story like: "OMG I had the (insert disease here) vaccine and it almost killed me!! I ended up in hospital and everything!!"

What you're actually reading (if the writer wasn't mentally challenged) is: "OMG I had the (insert disease here) vaccine and it almost killed me!! Thank god I did that as the actual (insert disease here) would have killed me for 100% certainty!!"

Does anyone on here agree with this statement?

People who write things like "I had COVID but I'm so glad I had my X doses of vaccine for it because it would have been so much worse otherwise" are just confirming their own bias.

It may have been worse, they may not have even noticed it but they want to feel like they had the vaccine for a reason and that's fine. Doesn't make it a factual statement.

I've had COVID at least twice that I'm aware of once before vaccines and once after, felt just as crap both times but each dose of the vaccine also wrote me off for a day each time so I've not really won anywhere :D

The mechanism of action of vaccine-related injury is not the same as infection. This could be true but it could also pan out completely differently.

'Long cold' also a thing..

It revealed that the “long Covid” phenomenon — when people experience prolonged symptoms such as fatigue and breathlessness — applied to most other respiratory illnesses including the common cold.

Given colds are much more prevalent than covid this likely explains the high number of self reported supposed 'long covid' cases..
If you are talking a cold which turns into a chest infection and nasty cough - which requires 3 courses of antibiotics to shift. Then cough continues for another 10 days - that's my colds when I was at school.

I know or know of quite a few of the people in the same cluster of cases of COVID as myself - frankly aside from people who had existing conditions which make them susceptible to diseases like this, who'd normally be really bad even potentially life threatening with this kind of thing, there wasn't much difference of note. In fact almost everyone in the cluster of cases I was part of had pretty much the same medium severity really irrespective of vaccination level or even not vaccinated. Aside from my dad who did have to get antibiotics for a resultant chest infection.

One thing I can say for certain at least with the vaccines at the time and the variant going around the vaccines did diddly squat to prevent transmission - my parents and some other family members who've pre-existing conditions had the booster about 3 weeks before.

I'd say very loosely people who'd had recent vaccinations seemed to get more in the way of fever earlier and recover 1-2 days quicker but it wasn't a definite pattern.
