COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

@Malevolence
Before you started at the hospital did you think COVID was exaggerated or did you know how bad it was but now know it's worse than you thought because you now work with it?
No, I knew it was bad from the start. In fact I believe I started the very first thread concerning COVID on these forums back when there was just a rumoured leak in Wuhan.

The shots are free to the normal use of the word "free". The claim was not refuted.

The profits of pfizer, moderna and the like (i'll exclude AZ due to the documented deaths that C19 "vaccine" caused before it was quietly withdrawn/disappeared) went through the roof. That profit did not come from any free bag of freeness.

Pfizer/BioNTech

BioNTech expects to make revenues of nearly €16bn (£13.5bn) from the vaccine this year, as its first-half net profit jumped to almost €4bn from €142m a year earlier.

Moderna

This company generated nearly $6bn of sales from its Covid-19 vaccine in the first half of the year, achieving a $4bn net profit – the first half-year profit since the firm was founded in Massachusetts in 2010.

Moderna has signed $20bn worth of vaccine contracts this year, including that for 17m doses to the UK, 460m to the EU and 500m to the US. It expects to produce up to 1bn jabs this year, followed by 2bn-3bn in 2022

AstraZeneca

Revenue of $1.2bn was achieved by AstraZeneca from the vaccine it developed with the University of Oxford in the first half of the year.

Free as a bird lol. If they cared about our health as much as claimed no need for so much mark up surely?

The covid jab this time was very mild except for a stiff shoulder. However the flu jab made me feel lousy for two days after.
Sore arm for me with Covid booster for rest of day.

I felt very lightheaded a few days after my flu vaccine. Hence why I fainted at work.

Good! That's fantastic!

We want companies that do good to rake it in. Nice to see companies like Moderna and Pfizer rewarded for doing enormous good. That means they'll invest in future vaccine production research and facilities so next time we might even get our free jabs even faster.

It also nothing to do with whether the Covid jab was free or not, and even less to so to free flu jab, @Flibster referenced. "Free" refers to the cost to the end user not whether the thing was paid for at some point, or whether it has any value. This isn't some special use for the NHS, it's how we talk about free stuff in general. This forum is free to you and me, but someone is still paying for the servers and administration necessary to keep it running.

The problem is that drug companies:
a) have a high risk product - both in failures to develop and within claims once released
b) have to employ people at the cutting edge of their fields - that costs both in acquiring staff, research at top universities, and the churn of successful staff.

Look at the revenue of those companies vs the fraud of PPE that was never recovered by the Conservative Party.

People also forget that the first company (I forget) threw over 2000 experts at it and they dropped everything else which has never been done before
They also threw 50000 volunteers into trials including me from June 2020 to December 2020 and you get idiots who say it wasn't tested properly, name another time where so many people were on trials and in one country?

Exactly.

However for some, the search for "blame" continues regardless.

Extensive human trials are only one part of testing for something like this. Contrary to the government/media messaging at the time the emergency authorisation documents actually state the limitations of testing and that it wasn't tested fully - even if there are justifications in an emergency situation for where they've not tested as they usually would out of an abundance of caution. Stuff like carcinogenic trials were skipped, deferred or reduced, etc. in many cases there was zero testing against pregnancies aside from limited animal studies, interaction studies with other medication or other COVID vaccines (kind of difficult when they were being developed at the same time) were limited or non-existent, etc.

If you're going to call people idiots for saying it wasn't tested properly, at least not be the guy that is an unwitting whistleblower to it... not being tested properly:

When I was told to go for my first jab in Jan 2021 I was then told I had a placebo in my trials because of all my co-morbidities.
Maybe you've mistaken something here, but they should not have been picking and choosing who received a placebo in the trials.

It's not as if this was a one off either:

I didn't mind because my instructions were to carry on as though I wasn't on the trial and to guard myself at all times. When I had the jab it had gone through all the tests.
I did feel a bit cheated when I found out but also understood why I got placebo's.

The point is though that is by no means proper testing, if that is indeed what they did when picking who had the meds and who didn't. If you're cherry picking and only giving to people with a reduced chance of issues because they're "healthy" then your data is fundamentally flawed from the outset.
