COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

This last part of the winter with lifted restrictions was always going to create a ramping back up of prevalence. Hopefully the summer will give us all some respite from it until the winter comes round again.

Anecdotal but I know of more people with who have COVID right now than at any point during the pandemic.. I am a bit concerned about catching it & suffering long covid symptoms.

Last few weeks seem to have been the worst for it around here but it is easing off again currently - only 1 person off where I work after hitting more than 1 in 3. Same for most of my family/friends where they work has seen the highest absences since the whole pandemic but people starting to trickle back again now.

Yeah, I personally knew of about 3-4 people who had caught it until this month. Now I’m probably aware of that same number who don’t currently have it or had it in the last month.

And, as they’re legally entitled to do, they continue to go about their day to day life as 99% of them have no or next to no symptoms so it’s not really any surprise that it’s so easily spreading

It's the opposite where I live (Essex), I don't know anyone with Covid right now, 8 weeks ago, I knew dozens. None of them have ended up with any long term problems.

My work took me to a hospital in the midlands area this week and I gathered from speaking to the local customer that the hospital was on black alert, all beds full and he said covid was really bad, probably the worst it has been for in-patients but ICU was not full of covid patients like it was.

Omicron symptoms last half as long as a cold for those who have had Covid booster vaccine
Scientists found people who had three doses of the coronavirus jab reported an average of 4.4 days of symptoms

Symptoms of omicron last about half as long as a common cold for people who have had their booster vaccine, a study has suggested.

Scientists at King’s College London studied 62,000 vaccinated people and found those who had three doses of a jab reported an average of 4.4 days of symptoms during the period when omicron was dominant.

In comparison, symptoms of a cold tended to last between seven and 10 days.

The study also found that the average duration of symptoms for an omicron infection was 3.3 days shorter than for a delta infection among people who had been boosted.

Seems like if you are going to get Omicron you want to get it before the booster wears off..

I've still to have a shot or to be sick as of yet go figure.
I did have a tender roof of my mouth and top set toothache for a week last month though, My mum said maybe covid mouth?
This was after a heavy night out in the pub though, internet says either dehydration or cancer... I'm fine now.
I do find it annoying that when you mention you have any normal season bug or virus that people automatically say it's the Rona tbh, and where did all the smugness and judgement and finger pointing come from?
We're all in this together but...hmmm don't you feel people are being a little too...whatyimicall it

If cold and flu and STD tests existed online? would be getting those as well?
Don't mean to be rude but it all comes over a bit South Park in California fart sniffing with people in general now.

Best place to get lateral flow tests online? Can't seem to find anywhere locally and we've run out.

Firstly cold and flu aren't anywhere near as transmissible as the current covid variant. Cold/Flu also tend to be seasonal, covid doesn't appear to be, it's around and prevalent all year, the season doesn't really seem to affect it. It's very unlikely you're going to get flu in the spring/summer months.

Some of us need to know for certain if it is covid as we are caring for elderly relatives and/or at risk of serious complications from covid. If we know we have it, then we can put in place precautions, like I had to when my Step-Dad caught it and had to isolate him away from my Mom and myself. This mitigated the risk of all us being ill with it at the same time and thus, not having anyone being able to perform the daily caring duties needed. It's much easier (although still difficult) to cope when only 1 in a household has it rather than the majority.

I love how people who say "I don't mean to be rude, but..." actually are intending to be rude but just want to warn people of their rudeness. I mean it just makes what they say so much tolerable, doesn't it.

I'm ill with a potentially life threatening virus and I'm having to isolate myself away from my family because both my 4 year old daughter who doesn't understand why she can't cuddle Daddy and can't see him all day even though he's upstairs in bed and my fiancee both suffer with Asthma. While I'm starting to feel a little better, I want to know when I'm no longer infectious so things can return to normal for us.

The fact is, if the idiots out there weren't pretending that Covid up and vanished like a fart in the wind then most of us wouldn't be catching the bloody thing and needing more tests.

you would think after 2+ years of this people would have educated themselves on how this works and you wouldn't need to explain yourself but I guess not. I wouldn't waste my time, ignoring is the best way to deal with this crap.

I'm sorry to cause offence but that's how I feel about it now, I've had enough of obeying the rules and just getting on with life. Here in Scotland it's still a bit higgle di Piggledi with the rules.
You don't have to wear a mask in the pub but if you walk into the bank the woman on the door tells you to wear one or as she said to me she'll slap my bum for me...hard choice.
