COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

I don't care about the TV, I don't care what the politicians say. Show me the papers.

Multiple countries, millions of subjects, the science doesn't change for politics.

Politicians can make bad decisions and try and fudge the science to make it work, but that doesn't change the science itself, they're just ignoring it. Politicians have to juggle other factors when it comes to applying science. Total lockdown would have been the best way to ensure COVID didn't spread, but it's clearly not the best thing for the country. Timing and details of lockdowns and other schemes etc are where science and politics butt heads, but whilst science can become politicised, it's generally easier to see it's bad science when it comes to the studies and papers.

Congratulations on showing your ignorance to how these trials work.
whatever. How can you do more lockdown that what they did?

It's called martial law. Stay at home orders enforced by the military.

Could they have done it? Yes. Would they? Obviously not... unless we had another black death or some kind of airborne ebola that was wiping out society.

I think these issues can only be decided based on the 'mostly likely' principle.

Both the FBI and CIA are saying it's the most likely narrative.

I just want the truth. If it's been man made or manipulated then we have a good chance of understanding it and getting treatments faster.

CIA saying it's the most likely outcome but has low confidence in this assertion? Not very reassuring is it.

Countries shut down their borders. Didn't allow people to go further than 100m from their homes except for essentials (tracking their phones etc). Cars and people were getting checked by police to ensure people had valid reasons or permits. Lockdowns for longer periods. It's very easy to have had more lockdown...

Which countries you in about. I was in Russia for 6 months from March 2020

Such a uk view. You probably don’t even leave your postcode and talk about the world

I tell you about different approaches to lockdown used by different countries, and you tell me that I need to travel more?

What difference does it make if I've never left my postcode or if I've lived in multiple countries? Do the facts become less true?

Again, personal anecdotes do not carry the same weight as the evidence of millions, analysed properly. My personal experiences simply do not count when measured against well done scientific studies (or whether a country went into a stricter lockdown than the UK).

Oh im not doubting that people died, just that all cause death rates haven't dropped back to the previous years rates of the 00s and 10s as you would expect.

All cause death rates will likely remain elevated for awhile - I can't remember the exact numbers but over the next 5-10 years something like 80K people will die due to late diagnoses or other healthcare interruptions from the pandemic for things like cancers, etc.

And short of properly funding our healthcare system there isn't really a way that could be avoided - if the healthcare system had collapsed, and it was a real prospect, when COVID ramped up that number would have been considerably exceeded.

Before the firebreak lockdown my local district hospital was operating at 9/10th of its capacity to deal with COVID along with massive staff burnout and an increasing number off sick with COVID and having to transport critical non-COVID patients to outlying facilities just to stay operational. Two of my cousins work there along with several of my colleagues having family working there so I know it was bad.

Now you are trolling.
A point of view with no reflection is a sad place to be. Keep pumping that random stuff in your arms. Probably drinking red bull and other crap without thinking about that too

so wrong. You’re the one well upset cause people disagree with your narrative

People may have a different view but why lambast them ?
