How do they do that then ? Must be a special kind of cow that does the skimming..
*slaps head*

Cows give milk, bulls do the skimming with their horns.

Gawd.

No they were Iraqi. Archeologists have traced the garden of eden to a place in Iraq.

They don't understand why their baby has been taken away from them.
They're cows, they don't understand much of anything.

Right, thanks, just I knew there was some confusion over Jewish Holidays and whether they were traced back to Adam & Eve, or whatever. :D

No you're right they don't understand much, but they still feel pain and show visible distress when they have lost their baby. The bond between a baby and it's mother is strong in most animals and to break it up is hard for either of them to deal with, whatever species they are.

Don't worry, it must be my posting style cos you're not the first to wonder...but hang on, *checks* Yep, still a laydee ;)

Cows produce full fat milk, somewhere in the region of 4 to 5% fat content.

The milk water content varies throughout the year based on what the cow is eating.

At the dairy, all the milk and fat are seperated in a continous centrifuge.

What you have left are two tanks, one with cream (fat) and one with skimmed milk 0%fat.

To get semi skimmed and standard milk, cream is added to the skimmed milk to get the correct percentage fat.

Dairies do not make a lot of money on milk, cream on the other hand is where all the money is made, so dairies love people to use low fat milk as this leaves them with more cream and profit.

Cows eat grass - where does the fat come from? It's a conspiracy I tell ya'!!

what was the question again?? :p

I think I answered the original 'are they kept pregnant' question. Answer: Yes.

Kept pregnant!!! - how does the bull do that then?

Wrong. They have one calf, and then produce milk. Cows, humans, all mammals produce milk for as long as it is needed, keep milking, they'll keep making more milk.

As for fat cows.....pasture varies, but put a cow on good quality rich grazing and you'll get a fat cow. My horses only need a whiff of spring grass and they balloon to the size of small bungalows.

God, sensible answers, what is wrong with me :(

I'm giving up the forums!!

so all the time a cow, wife or whatever is breast feeding or extracting, it will continue to produce milk?
