CPR W3 on Hairworks(Nvidia Game Works)-'the code of this feature cannot be optimized for AMD'

Nope. Hairworks is done using DirectCompute. So you can't use a separate graphics card for the calculations like you can with PhysX.

So it may run on others GPUs, but it can not be optimized by the developer for other GPUs.

Maybe in this specific case people should be asking the developer why they don't provide support for tressfx as a vendor specific render path or code the feature entirely from scratch.

Probably because when they asked AMD for help in implementing it (like NVidia do with their own software technologies) they never heard back, why would AMD bother when they can just sit back and blame the developer/NVidia all of the time.

Better than paying for your API to be used in some games and your competition can't use it at all? *cough* mantle *cough*

Actually no as there are no game change elements attached to Mantle, just like NVAPI does not change game elements.

So that's all that matters then

Yes that's all that matters as long as it does not interfere with the other render path just like NVAPI that gives more performance on NV cards that AMD cant use, AMD users dont make a fuss about it in fact no one does.

Now in this case because it can be turned off it is less of an issue with Hairworks in that regards, my issue is Hairworks was being touted as NV answer to TressFX but because of the limitations it is not.

Yeah nice excuse but pretty much what I expected from you.

It's okay for AMD to lock API's and performance benefits to their hardware in certain titles but not for nVidia.

As i have just said NVAPI does the same for NV and NVAPI has been around a lot longer than Mantle.
So we are done son.

Want HairWorks features to run well on your system? Get an nVidia GPU. Want your BF Hardline to run well on your system? Get an AMD GPU. Simples really.

Want to one platform to run them both. Get a console. All this in-fighting between AMD and Nvidia is destroying the PC platform.

Its like watching a slow motion train wreck.

JPR Market Watch report released this week said:
Year-to-year total GPU shipments dropped 2.9%—Desktop graphics down 12.6%, notebooks up 4.2%

The desktop market is shrinking each year, only offset by some increases in mobile dGPUs and increased ASP for cards.

That is including iGPUs. So imagine, what the reality for dGPUs is for desktops.

I don't think an even playing field would strengthen the PC and the fact that 28nm has been with us for so long will be a factor on the decline is GPU sales. If you look at nVidia, they announced record profits and are reinvesting all the time.

I wasn't arguing whether NVAPI did that or not.

Simply stating AMD have done similar, son.

No because Mantle = NVAPI.

Hairworks = TressFX.

You brought mantle into it which is nothing like what is going on with Hairworks= TressFX if TressFX could not be optimized for other GPUs then AMD should be doing similar in that regards but they are not, so stop with your apples to oranges.

And we are done for the final time :)

Yes,but ultimately less and less dGPUs are being sold for desktop- Nvidia makes lots of money from commercial sales too, remember and is branching out into other areas. Plus they slaughtered AMD in the laptop market.

All this infighting does,is just make consoles look better for gaming, and god forbid if Apple decides to enter the console market in some way.

If things start getting polarised its going to just push away people from caring about the desktop.

FFS,look at the Witcher 3?? Evidently, consoles are the major platform now for the dev, since its more gimped than originally thought.

Devs are probably only caring to integrate features into PC verisons of games, since they see it as free money from either AMD or Nvidia.

If not they would probably just gimp all the games to XBox One levels.

No you just think it's different because it's not a graphical setting.

They are still locking the competition out of more performance whether you like it or not.

We're done when you stop responding :)
