First time poster here and I'm a not a PC expert, not even close.

I recently noticed my CPU temperature reaches 100C when under load, so today I cleaned my PC after 3 years of just leaving it, and there's no more dust.

I have also reapplied new thermal paste.

But, my CPU still reaches 100C under load. Why is the CPU temp that high? What else can I do?

What are the exact specifications of your PC?

CPU + Which heatsink
Mobo
RAM
PSU
Case + Fan layout

What are you doing that pushes it to 100C, just playing games or running stress tests? What are your ambient temps?

Intel i7-7700k with Intel Original E97379-003 CPU Cooler Fan
Mobo??
2 x 8GB Crucial DDR4-2133 CL15
EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case
Fan layout: one at the front end, one at the back end with the air flow towards each other (sorry if this is not descriptive enough)
I am running scripts which uses all 8 cores at 100% usage more or less and this is the main reason why I use the PC
CPU is also not overclocked at all

Also if I get this dual fan setup you linked, can I leave my case fans as they are or will that mess up the air flow?

Fan layout: one at the front end, one at the back end with the air flow towards each other

The fan at the rear of the case should set so its blowing the warm air out of the case.

So front fan/s pulling cool air in and rear fan blowing warm air out.

Thanks for your help, so there's nothing else that could be causing the 100C CPU temp? Just all down to the cooler?

If you haven't been messing around in the bios and/or overclocking it's almost certainly your HSF.

The stock heatsinks for Intel aren't great to begin with to be honest, with the current weather it's little wonder you're hitting such high temps.

Something like this would be more than ample:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £20.99 (includes shipping: £0.00)

You could try turning the rear fan around first and see if that makes much of a difference but my guess is it will still run hot.

The I7 7700k didn't come with a cooler as far as i'm aware so who ever you got the PC from must have fitted that one as a cost saving.

Your temps line up with this.

is the heatsink getting very hot?
at 100c the heatsink should be almost too hot to touch if its getting the heat away from the cpu, if its not then id say thermal paste would still be a potential issue
or you have just not noticed in the past that it has been running that hot?
either way a new heatsink is a must, that arctic is a good choice

I've used this setup for 3 years, why would the cooler now not be adequate?
It was never good for the CPU in the first place...
Except for playing Minesweeper and Notepad.

Only decent stock cooler is AMD's Wraith Prism.

Seriously crappy Intel cooler mounting could have broken down...
Chewed up bubblegum/toothpaste Intel put under heatspreader to increase their profits could be going bad...

If u ran 100% on I adequate cooler for few years, there is a chance it accelerated this issue mentioned above.
It's a speculation but with higher % of being tru.

And back fan turn it around to blow air out the back.
Let us know how it goes.
