CPU temperature 100C under load

Have you only just checked the CPU temp under load? If so, its probably always been 100*C. 7700K's run hot anyway, combine one with a stock Intel cooler and this is what you get.

Not that it matters but... Why did you buy a 7700K if you're just going to run the stock cooler? The whole purpose of the 'K' chips is that they are overclockable.

Just getting a better cooler is probably a better idea than doing what is suggested above, unless you feel confident in doing it. Both will result in much lower temperatures...

1. Because I know nothing about this stuff, my friend made the decisions

2. Already have, and only a 5-10C improvement

Your friend knows nothing about this stuff either it seems. :p

Only a 5 - 10C improvement is troubling. What thermal paste are you using, how much of it, and how are you applying it? Is the cooler definitely secure?

How hot is the room the computer is in?

What does the inside of the case look like in terms of ability to flow air?

Where are the intake and exhaust fans?

I would like to see a HWiNFO screenshot to see how much voltage is being pumped through the CPU.

He's already posted it above.

No, just showing what can happen to the paste inside, the 3770k degraded over time. If it's the same issue here no cooler is going to be adequate.

Unless he's doing something silly with the thermal paste/cooler instalation, which is a possibility, then that is pretty much the only remaining possibility.

Unless the room is a sauna and the computer has no proper ventilation.

Maybe it's a case of the CPU degrading if it's been run at 100c for 3 years.

whoever sold OP the PC thought it would be a good idea to stick an Intel Original E97379-003 CPU Cooler on a 7700k which didn't come with a stock cooler for the obvious reason that it needs something a better and it's probably been throttling performance and cooking the CPU for 3 years.

I don't think delidding the CPU would be the right way to go Since it would kill the resale value of the CPU and isn't going to provide much in the way of performance especially without overclocking.

Selling the motherboard and CPU and grabbing a ryzen motherboard/3000cpu would provide a much bigger jump in performance especially as OPs workload is utilising all cores at 100%.
