CPU Upgrade

Its coming up with an error with QX9650:

ERROR! The CPU core to bus ratio or VID configuration has failed
Please enter Bois setup and re-configure it

I tried taking out the CMOS battery for an hour but the error is still there.

Have tried checking for the latest BIOS, wonder if the system can actually take the CPU!
 
I can't actually see which cpu's are supported apart from the following

Intel® Celeron®
Intel Pentium® Dual Core
Intel Core™2 Duo
Intel Core2 Quad

Which on limited information, doesn't list extreme. The advice given is go for the q6600 which is a very good cpu for a third of the price and appears would have been supported.

I've had many problems with Dell computers and upgrades. Their tech spec lists things like DDR 2 800 supported. This is far from true, attempted to upgrade them in the past they appear to work fine but then get random bsod in windows. Stick to 667 memory and its not a problem. At one point I sticks of DDR2 800 or higher, and I was using 512mb sticks of 667 as it was the only stable option to get them running.

When I click F1 to continue the Windows 7 bootscreen gets stuck and restarts.
Could this be due to 32bit Windows installed on it?

Edit: I formatted my HDD and reinstalled Win7 and it works but the BIOS error still comes up.

Why does this error keep coming up at BIOS?

Check your manual. it'll be a jumper or a button on the motherboard.

If it's a jumper, set it to the alternative position then back again (with the power off and disconnected). If it's a button just press it with the power off/disconnected.

You should always reset BIOS and load defaults when you update the BIOS as updates can add items/settings that don't appear until you do that. Once you've loaded defaults then go back and set the BIOS up. If you have any doubts, take a note of BIOS settings before you do the reset.
