Always the entertainer, he will be very badly missed.

As someone has said, he has great company up there now with Michael "Beef" Park and Richard Burns.

Very very sad, a true hero of mine.

Reminds me a lot of how I felt when Steve Hislop died in such similar circumstances. Seems crazy that with all the racing risks they took they ended up dieing in an air accident.

If his young son was also in the helicopter that makes the whole thing even more unbearably tragic for his poor wife :(

Liekwise colin was a hero of mine from when i was a kid.

He is going to very sadly missed, amazing bloke, quiet and understated never wanted any bother but man he could drive.

Remember watching him when i was 15ish at the Network Q Tatton Park, had a quick word with him, nothing much but ment the world to me as a young un.

R.I.P Colin, my thoughts are with your and your family :( :( :( :(

I am gutted. Rest in peace Colin, as well as your littlun and the two others who were with you.

I grew up with the days as Colin in his Impreza and all the awareness he did for the sport. This is a tragedy.

Thanks for the pictures- that's how he should be remembered :) :(

Sorry to be such a pessimist, but I'm just dreading confirmation in the morning news and the ID of his passengers. Heartbreaking :(

BBC haven't confirmed his death yet, but I guess that's a formality. Wikipedia is still showing it as speculation that he's died, I guess that's because there won't be an official Police statement until the morning.

Im Heartbroken :(:(:(

Colin has allways been my number one entertainer since i was born in 91, i remember back in year 1 of school, my teacher used to be a colin fan too, and i allso remember when i was young about 5-8 ish when i saw my first ever rally and colin mcrae appart from on tv, it was a superspecial night time stage in donninton park, i was stood across from the dunlop bridge where there was a jump and sparks came from under the cars.

Colin McRae will allways be the best and never ever will i forget his name

RIP.

Going to miss him :(:(

Being from lanark, the town where colin was born and grew up, i'm absolutely devistated at this news, i didnt believe it when my friends first told me about the crash, it still hasnt really sunk in now. He was a sporting hero and legend throughout the world and will be sadly missed :(

RIP colin and my thoughts are with his family and friends. :(

No matter who you are or what you have, being Alive & Healthy is the Single most valuable thing in the world. I couldn't believe Richard Burns went down so quick & young & the same goes for Colin. For me he was one of those real life super hero characters, larger than life & indestructable then this happens. I've lost loads of people over the years but still cannot get over the fragility of life :(

R.I.P. all Four.
