Creative g6 Vs fiio k5 pro. Stereo Vs SBX

I'm using X2s right now (having had 58x, K712 and DT990 in the past). Think they are praised as 'fun' headphones for gaming. Soundstage seems wide and they have the convenient use of the VModa Mic. Makes them a decent 'fun' headset imho.

58x had far better imaging - I could pin point enemies etc better but for me the trade off was they sounded much narrower/closed which I didn't like.

I'm tempted to go back to the DT990 if I'm honest - but the non removable cable and need to add a mod mic (and extra cable) put me off.

How did you like the k712? Was the imaging good for a wide soundstage?

I don't like the imaging on the k712, its wide but average on accuracy. The HD 58X are very good for accuracy but lacking on stereo. If you pair with HRTF though they are really good IMO. If stereo gaming though the k712 would be better.

Hmm. Isn't that the trade off in general when in comes to narrow Vs wide soundstage? You either have great imaging on a narrow soundstage or good/average imaging on a wide soundstage with the advantage of knowing how far footsteps are away from you.

How "average" would you say imaging is on the k712? Do you not get positional audio at every number around the clock (bar central imaging)?

I could probably get the 6xx which had a similar soundstage to the 58x but again I'm unsure if I'll like it.

have those three headphones (712, HD6xx and HD58x) IMO 712 are amazing for gaming. Personally have no issues in gaming being able to pick up footsteps with them, 702's were slightly clearer but prefer the 712's elevation at the lower levels preferably, ohhh and ear pads are divine.

6xx and 58x are amazing all around IMO but do not excel in some areas like others. The 6xx is fairly smooth with a smaller soundtage then the 712, but still very clear. 58x have slightly more energy I find and the bass has more impact (though not more clear vs the 6xx). The 58x however is slightly less clear the the 6xx and a bit more grainy (comparatively) Both 6xx and 58x however do have a more narrow soundstage vs the 712 (and 702) but by no means do they feel closed in IMO.

If I personally had to buy only one of the three above, 6xx would be my choice due to fact all around amazing headphones. Disadvantage though is hard to send back (along with 58x) if you don't like them (though they do sell for most thier resale price on ebay) while 712 can easily be picked up in UK.

Abit all above is in stereo not 5.1 and all that stuff. Likewise all my opinion, everyone prefers something slightly different in this game.

Not necessarily some headphones do have both, my HD800s have both in spades. A very wide soundstage but at the same time have very good imaging, but then in a slightly different category.

The soundstage is always something I worry about when almost pulling the trigger on the 6xx. People online say they're very narrow and best for music and not gaming.

I feel as though for my use case the 712 would be the "safer" choice, I just wish I could try the 650/6xx as if I found them fine for gaming I know I'd love them for music.

Depending on the game I'll probably use the SBX feature in the g6 while using direct mode for music.

Is the imaging on the 712 solid around the clock (aside from central)? The only issue I had with the x2 is the dog **** imaging sounded almost 2d.

I'd love hd800s buuut I don't have £500 to blow on a used pair and probably more to replace pads lol.

Personally 58x Vs 6xx I'd just shell up the extra £50 and get the 6xx. I don't buy into the 58x hype as much as others

I have a K5 Pro and can recommend it.
Using K702's and came from an Asus STX sound card.

Great boost for music especially in the bass. Far more detailed and deeper sound.
Gaming I didnt notice much of a difference really, except again bass was improved (so explosions sounded much deeper than before for example)

not had any issues with imaging on the 712 from any direction, everything is pretty clear to me in terms of where it is coming from. Heard better, sure but not bad.

in respect to 58X, imo they are astonishingly good for the price. They have been hyped slightly, but for their price they are extremely good so can easily see why people do rave about them. With the 6XX though being just a little bit more as you mentioned offers another flavour. I know some prefer the 58x signature so in their case an absolute bargain.

Can you link what plug I'd have to buy with the k5 pro?

what do you mean by plug? Afaik buying from a UK site would mean it comes with the relevant UK plug in the box.

if your talking about headphone jack, it uses a 1/4 jack and most half decent headphones including ones mentioned above (712 pro, HD6xx, 58x etc) all come with a 1/4 adaptor in the box.

make sure it's the K5 PRO you are buying and not the old K5 - the Pro is a good DAC and Amp in one box whereas the older K5 is just an amp

Personally for gaming you'll get used to anything. Nearly every Pro uses either some junk or earbuds at the highest competitive level. I think the best thing to do would probably be to get what sounds great for music

The schiit hel or fulla 3 looks an intersting alternative.

Only if you only want stereo, I can't do without the SBX 7.1 when gaming, I find the 3d environment it creates pretty convincing. Relying on in game bi-aural stereo simulation is very hit or miss imo.
