Need to buy in a couple of 256GB SSD's. Always purchased Crucial drives in the past, happy with performance, reliability and support if required.
I see the Samsung drives are slightly cheaper and have "paper specifications" that put them above the Crucial drives.
Are the Samsung as good as they look, or worth sticking to Crucial?

The m4 is a 10/10 drive. So it is easy to recommend and you can’t go wrong.

But I too recently saw an article that put the Samsung above it performance wise.

Your call. Don’t think your go wrong either way.

Not sure about the sammy but M4 has UK based support.
So no need to pay high charges after the 1st year for warranty returns(if any thing happens).

Asked this same question last week, seems Crucial is pretty solid on latest firmware plus they apparently have a great RMA service on faulty drives (which doesn't seem too common). The Samsung was meant to (so far) have a lower RMA rate, and seems rock solid on the firmware it's currently shipping with. I doubt there's a huge real world difference between either to be honest.

Sammy for me. Software, price, and looks. Plus the laptop version is really thin in case you fancy a ultrabook (which I do).

There isn't much between them from what I read. Reliability or performance. Not the best 4K write, but rest looks peachy.

I don't care for the sandforce drives at all. I don't care how fast they are in benches, reliability is #1 in my book for a drive.

Samsung 830. No contest.

Is that as helpful as koolpc's post?

Seriously, I've owned a 256GB Samsung 830 since the beginning of June, I've had no problems with it and it performs as you'd expect.

Everyone seems to say good things about the M4 as well.

You can't really go wrong with either.

I love my Samsung 830 256GB, it's cheaper than the M4 too. Mine came with zero software (desktop version). The M4 is good too but they are the same size and pretty much even in performance don't see any point paying extra for no noticeable gains. 830 is a lot cheaper and rated faster, and I haven't had to upgrade any firmware yet.

Just downloaded Samsung Magician Tool, has some good tweaks I didn't realise I hadn't done. Has some nice sensible features and an optimization tool also. Great software.

Thanks for the replies. I've used Crucial SSD's for a while - I currently own a couple of 128GB M4's (Having also owned the previous 2 generations).
I'm fitting my work PC with 2x 256GB SSD's and saw that the Samsung's were that little bit cheaper.
May well give them a punt this time around and see what they are like.

Samsung have an offer starting on 15 August with £20 cashback on the 256GB drive.

Heads up Samsung 830 256gb cash back

I've got both. Had the M4 (64GB), moved that to my HTPC, and now use the Samsung (128GB)

I can't tell the difference. Boot times appear the same, as does general use.

I have a 256gb Samsung 830 and the 128gb M4. I don't there's much between them in terms of hardware, but I do like the software that come with the Samsung drive.

I think Crucial just gives you the bare drive.

I went m4 due to good reviews on the support should something go wrong.

They release regular firmware and I have been very happy with it.

But as it's been pointed out, you cant go wrong with either
