CryEngine 3 tech demo

Heres what i think is the full length video, and it points out whats PS3 and 360 footage -

And apparently the music is done by Peter Antovszki. Heres the forum comment i read -

This subject was brought up while we were taking the tour around the Crytek Budapest studio and I think it was Studio Manager Kristoffer Waardahl who said that Warhead's score is a mix of both composer's productions and it's put together by Mr. Antovszki.

I personally thought the music in both games was brilliant and something that wasnt giving enough credit, especially the original Crysis soundtrack.

The texture pop up there is awful! I'm suprised they didn't use more limited game settings in terms of draw distance to hide that tbh (though I'll give it that it holds up a lot better in closed conditions).

Give me Cryengine on the PC any day, thanks :p

I see you cherry picked the absolute worst bit of the video. I could cherry pick far worse scenes on my max-setting Crysis/Warhead games. The rest of the trailer looked stunning, much better than the vast majority of console games.

Did you guys not see the 360/PS3 logos at the start? It's obviously for consoles. The camera movement implies the use of joypads.

edit: plot-wise, we all seem to be missing one crucial thing; the urban settings in the trailer shows Korean signs  Crysis to take place in North Korea next? It would make a lot of sense...

no i didnt. i picked up a pic with lots of scenery and draw distance. i didnt pick up a screen that shows a particular bad texture or sth so your claim is wrong. no matter how hard you try you cant make crysis look like that, except if you lower the settings.

Btw, this is a tech demo. you really think if ever a console game based on cry-engine 3 comes out it will look like that? nope, its going to look much worse... tech demos never represent the final result

Tons of crawling textures and flickering in that higher res vid, i know its a tech demo but usually they would go out of their way to make sure it ran smooth and looked smooth. its funny they call this cryengine 3 and make a big hoopla about it when its clear it doesn't look as good as cryengine 2 (you'd expect 3 to look better than 2, not the case here), id actually be suprised if this wasn't much more than cryengine 2 stripped down to suit the consoles.

Funny how cryteks stance has changed they released a game that they pretty much admitted had buggy code (and before it was released they were talking about the pc like it was the second coming), complained when it did't sell as well as they'd hoped, then started crying about piracy like consoles are totally unaffected by that. And now it looks as if theyve switched sides to the consoles completly. Their position is pretty much the same as epic gams was, they championed the pc then when their much hyped ut3 sold about as well as hot dogturds in a bag they jumped aboard the piracy bandwagon and started bashing pc gaming.

Epic imo was more of a suprise in their sudden turn, unreal and ut99 done amazingly well ut2003 didn't do too well, 2004 apparently done very well then when UT3 hit they just hit the roof when it didn't sell well. Crytek on the other hand were pretty devious, most of the time they showed crysis it was on a large lcd tv instead of a monitor, this let them hide the fact that it wasn't running in a high of a res as you'd think. On a large monitor it would be very easy to pick up if the res was low or not due to a stretched image whereas a lot of large tv's had a vga mode of 1024x768 so the game didn't look distorted on the screen. They normally avoided questions about res and when asked for system specs all you got was "we're still optomising".

I hate this trend in companies going towards consoles more and more, oddly enough i dont hear epic crying about gears 2 piracy and that had a ton of downloads. Be interesting to see if crytek kick up a stink when their new console game gets pirated.

Wonder what resolution the engine is native to. If its running at 1080p then that would mean its effectively running the crysis engine smooth at a res that most pc`s cant touch with that kind of quality.

Really need to get round to actually playing crysis tho. Been on my list for a while but not had time!

Highly unlikely, many lesser games cant handle 720p.

Seems like they've just gimped the Cryengine 2 to get it running on consoles.

Cryengine 1.5 would be a more appropriate name for it, imo.

Nah the Cryengine 3 has more features than the Cryengine 2, it's just this engine is also multiplatform, while also having more graphical features many of which are quite handy.

Yup looks very meh. So they made a new engine that looks worse. Yawn.

It's not a new engine Cryengine 1-3 are the same engine only constantly updated, and with many new features they eventually change it's name. This one is multiplatform which probably warrants a name change in it's self.

Crytek wanting to sweep Cry Engine 2 under the carpet as soon as possible then?

Oh dear.

Not really, the Cryengine 3 is a more advanced version of the Cryengine 2. :)

Crysis didn't do as well as they expected so they threw their toys out the pram, rather than address the reasons why.

Crysis actually sold REALLY well for a PC game, but the engine it self isn't selling THAT great compared to Unreal 3, primarily because the cryengine was PC only, which to many developers is not acceptable. Now the Cryengine is multi platform you will start to see more Cryengine games coming out.

No, it's a more advanced engine than Cryengine 2. The reason it looks gimped is because it's running on a console, and I don't care how much optimising anyone does a console game will never look as good as Crysis on the PC at max settings.

Currently we at LukeWarm Media use the latest build of Cryengine 2 for development but, we're looking at getting a license for Cryengine 3, not only for multiplatform support but for some of the new features as well.

I also fail to see how that's more impressive, renders don't mean gameplay graphics, i mean look at the original cryengine 2 videos from a few years ago.

Also, may i just say:

PC engine in better looking than multiplatform engine shocker!

1. There is already a thread for that
2. How is that relevant to a Cryengine 3 thread?

1. Sorry didnt see there was a PO thread.
2. Its relevant becuase its a game engine demo just like the Cryengine 3 one shown, but its far more impressive! In a conversation, conversation genereally flows in and around other related topics otherwise it gets rather stale.

And Streeteh, I'm pretty sure I'ts real-time. After all, they are being backed and funded by Intel. Should be far more optimised than Cryengine 2 was.
