It's crazy how much better the textures are.

Er, I don't know, maybe because it's THE PC GAMERS WHICH SUPPORTED THEM FOR ALL THIS TIME?

You're still missing the point, it's not about the graphics, it's the fact that things which should be included in the release of a game simply aren't there. Crysis had DX10 from the start, lots of modern games on the PC have DX10 and to a lesser extent, but still there DX11. When the game was announced and more info was released, Crytek said Crysis 2 would have DX10 AND DX11 support for PC gamers, which lots of people now expected, yet come release there will only be DX9 so they've basically disregarded PC's completely, focused on the consoles and which graphics and etc they can use and gone from there. I couldn't care less about the graphics, the fact of the matter is those aspects of the game should still be there whether you care about them or not, that's what you seem to be missing.

People aren't asking Crytek to ignore the console market, everyone knows there's more money there, but you shouldn't ship out a game which is unfinished and doesn't include all the features which were promised at release. It's clear they don't give a rats ass about the PC on Crysis 2, and the only reason they gave us a demo is because of the leak which happened before, which was just ported straight over from the xbox360.

If a game is coming out and it promises me for example a co-op campaign or a level editor exclusively for PC, but they decide in the end they can't finish it, so they just release the game with whatever features the consoles have and these exclusive PC features which were promised aren't coming out for 6 months, I would be saying exactly the same thing as I am now, just concerning a different part of the game.

No it's the point you are missing from what I'm saying, why should they include these features that cost more money to develop to a market which will produce less revenue, the game is perfectly playable at DX9 settings, saying they HAVE to be there? That's a joke. You seem to think a company is loyal to it's customers. Companies don't give a ****, they just want to make the most money they can and that unfortunately is in DX9 on consoles. A company will only be loyal to the platform that produces the most revenue.

Also you're all raving on, and you don't even know if it's included or not. As far as I am aware there was not going to be a Crysis 2 Demo anyway, the fact the game was leaked probably led them to release a Demo to cure the 'itch' potential impatient customers would have had to play the game. Consequently this demo was probably rushed together hence the UI's from the consoles are there e.g. press Start. This is probably all pointless conversation anyway because there probably will be DX10/11 support, however if it comes delayed then that's tough ****, it's better than it not being there at all.

This argument about why we shouldn't care so much about graphics and only gameplay is nonsense TBH. I can understand the sentiment and underlying idea behind it, but the reality is that if people cared more about gameplay than graphics we'd all still be playing boardgames and cards all the time. We've almost all of us moved on to high-end video games because we want to enjoy better atmosphere and general experience. A huge part of that is done using detailed and impressive graphics. Another part is sound.

"Crysis" is a brand known for being extremely graphically demanding. By pandering to console gamers they are making a very bold move away from that brand into more commercial territory (i.e. consoles). It makes enormous sense from a short to medium financial term but for the long term I'm not so sure it's a good thing on the whole. It pretty much means that they are no longer particularly interested in pushing the boundaries, and that can't be good for the customer.

I personally think consoles drag the general quality of gaming down, while the PC platform is ideal for testing brand new ideas and technologies. Consoles are the exact opposite of that, because they are standalone objects that people don't/can't really upgrade, so the games that come out for them have to pander to what could be 3-5 year old tech.

I tell you the other group of people who won't be too happy about consoles getting more and more of a shoe-in to gaming and that's the graphics cards developers :) When we get to the point where nobody ever needs or wants to purchase new cards when new games and new generations of games are released, they're going to have an enormous market closed off to them. Sure, they will be able to jump right into the console market, but as I say, people don't upgrade consoles. Perhaps that'll change in the future though.

Anyway just some of my thoughts.

To be fair you never need to spend £1000 nor £500 to get console level graphics from your games.

That is true, however I wasn't talking about equalling console level graphics, I was talking about bettering them. ie the difference between console + PC

Er, I don't know, maybe because it's THE PC GAMERS WHICH SUPPORTED THEM FOR ALL THIS TIME?

Other than buying their game (which console users will do..), what exactly have you done to support them?

Why do they owe you anything?

Also I find some people in this threads assumptions and ideas of how games are developed laughable. :)

How would DX10 cost more to develop when:
#1 It's being patched in after
#2 It's already in Crysis 1 as it is?

It'll cost exactly the same, they've just disregarded any features which aren't in the console version and putting them in later.
If a developer promises to give you features at launch they should be there, that's that. What happened to games being released when they were complete? Or focusing on the better platform and porting it off onto the lesser, derp platforms? If a game you were looking forward to on the console was promising x, y and z and come release these features just weren't there, you'd be in exactly the same position.

Turning your back on PC gamers isn't the brightest thing to do, simple fact is more people will just pirate it now since they don't want to buy a watered down port which caters to lesser performing platforms, saves us some money I guess. :)

I think a lot of you are missing the point. The beauty of the PC platform is scaleability. Consoles are always a line in the sand (although some optimisaton is found during the lifespan). What should be built in to a PC version is the option to run at full res (that only a few computers can run) right down to a lower res, less detail for lower spec machines. This will also give the game more lifespan as it'll still look great after a couple of years when your PC is upgraded and you can turn the options up a notch or two. This obviously can't be done on a console, but that's not important.

How much extra work is required in producing a fully scaleable PC version? I've no idea, but I'd imagine if they created hi def textures as standard and then compress them to console levels it shouldn't be a problem.

im really dissapointed now after hearing this and i just preorderd the gqme out of game this morning to... WTF crytek what are you doing if this is what crysis 2 is gonna be like what is crysis 3? gonna be like the same no thank you im sick of dx 9 games to be honest got this rig for new game tec (dx11 ) not ****** 9 looks like im gonna cancl my pre order now... adding dx 11 later is a BIG INSULT TO PC GAMERS I RECKON...

Instead of a step forward we see a huge leap back.

Where? Looking at those screens and the ones posted a couple pages back theres not a lot in it, especially as we dont know if this is what the pc release will look like or just the console demo copied over, aswell as not knowing what the dx10/11 effects will add when they appear at release or after. Aswell as sunny paradise will always look a little brighter than the top of a city building in the rain etc. It looks great, people are clearly doing something wrong with some of the complaints they have.

/complainermode: I spent £2k on my computer. I dont care if it looks nice or what the game is like. I spent lots of monies so I want better then everyone else. It doesnt say dx11 so it must be crap even though I cant tell the difference anyway. I hate crytek. I want a tech demo, new benchmark and some epeen points, who care about actual gaming!!?!?/endcomplaint

So many people getting butthurt over very little.
