Crysis 2 MP Demo on 25th Jan

Its quite phenominal that it is running like that on an Xbox 360. Really immpressive stuff and it was said gears 2 pushed it to the limits....

I found it didn't play very well tbh.

I mean in terms of getting into the action and starting a game.
Going through the menu's to get to a game is all fine, but when I go to actually find and join sessions I very rarely seem to be able to find a session.

And when I do eventually find one, the thing normally crashes my xbox while its loading the map.

I probably get to play a round every 4 attempts out of 10!

And my finding and joining a session is not because I am behind a strict / moderate NAT either. It recognises my connection as an open NAT.

Gameplay does feel very samey compared to the COD series.

The demo is rushed and was a 5 month old build when released there have been many changes to it since. The funniest thing was hearing from the horses mouth that the demo was disliked by Crytek themselves but again it was pushed out unwillingly. The demo also contains horrible netcode which has had a full overhaul. Oh and hitmarkers are back in!

Things are looking very good with this title tbh.

Now we've all had a chance to let our thoughts settle, who is pre-ordering the game? :p I'm hovering with my finger over the buy button but undecided...

I'd like to buy it...I bought the first on the PC and really enjoyed it. But my PC isn't up to specs these days so I'd like to get it on the PS3.

I am hesitant. I have yet to see the PS3 version in action, I know the devs stated that performance wise it'll be slightly better, so why not show it off?

I'm in the same boat, would prefer to order it on Steam but my laptop will definitely not handle it. I don't have any fears of the PS3 version not being up to scratch. I read the performance is slightly better than the 360 version. So it'll be the PS3 version I get.

I rarely buy games on launch these days, after about a month they are usually half the price so generally wait until then..

I'd normally rent it but I'm sure as it's an EA game, it will have the online pass thing so I'd be restricted to 48 hours of multiplayer only. Therefore I may as well pre-order and get the bonus items in the limited edition.

Had it pre-ordered for as long as I can remember. Absolutely cannot wait for this game.

Enjoyed the demo/beta too, although there were some serious balancing issues but it was old code from October so I'm sure this will have been addressed in the full release. Crysis Warhead is my favorite (post Sonic Cd) game of all time and Crysis comes in a close second so I have a lot is riding on Crysis 2 to deliver. I must admit when I played the demo it didn't feel anything like the first two games but I still enjoyed it anyway and from what I've seen and played of the campaign - which is where I'll spending most of my time (played an early SP demo version at Eurogamer back in October) it looks awesome.

If you havn't seen it yet I strongly suggest watching the Road Rage 1 Gameplay Trailer here http://www.gametrailers.com/video/crysis-2-crysis-2/710534 which shows a very brief part of an early level (so it doesn't spoil the experience for you later of playing the full game but at the same time gives a nice insight into the campaign). I'm also glad to see that on-the-fly weapon customization is back as I like to adjust my tactics depending on the situation and how its changing in the game. Before seeing this trailer I hadn't seen or heard anything about on-the-fly weapon customization and was worried it had been dropped as the devs were only talking about suit customization. Seeing this video reassured me it hasn't, and I want the game more than ever now!

Apparently Crysis 2 will not be using EA's online pass for multiplayer. Pre-order cancelled, rental is good to go. :D

Since Crytek is in the EA partner program, they were given the option to have the Online Pass. Instead they opted out of it for a couple of reasons. At the time it was offered, the online pass was still in its infancy stages and Crytek did not want Crysis 2 to be a testbed. Secondly; Crytek realizes that most console gamers have not experienced a Crysis game yet. They didn’t want to put a wall up to keep people away from the multiplayer and instead wanted to aim at sustaining its popularity even longer than most first person shooters who’s name doesn’t begin with “Call” or “Halo”.

Another new trailer, only released today. Looks absolutely awesome. The music is excellent too, and the whole thing just makes me want Crysis 2 even more!

Can I also make a suggestion now the open beta/demo has finished and that is with the thread starters permission that this thread be renamed to the official Crysis 2 (console thread) as there seems to be a lot of PC Crysis threads, but it would be nice for those interested in playing the game on console to have somewhere to discuss.

Can you still download the demo for 360 ?

The link seems to have been removed from the marketplace on the website. Not sure if it's gone from the dashboard, too.

EDIT: Not available to download anywhere now. I think it might have only been due to run for a month. You could always try the forthcoming PS3/PC demos if you have access to those platforms.

I'm gonna download the "demo" again when it comes out on PC or Ps3 as I really enjoyed the 360 "demo" and was surprised when it ended so quickly as it was being marketed as a "demo" - which to my knowledge means its a demonstration of the full game and it should be possible to download and try it at any time in now or the future and shouldn't have a time limit. I think open beta would be a far more accurate description because thats effectively what it was as the code was from last October and it was obvious by the balancing issues and bugs they were still testing it.

Still, who cares. I enjoyed it anyway, and even though its only a small taste of whats to come it will keep me playing until the full game comes out. It will also be interesting to see if they have improved the code and fixed the issues or balancing since the 360 trial or if they are simply releasing the same code again for PC and Ps3 owners to get a slice of the action.

Regardless, the 360 demo/trial made a very big impression on me and I enjoyed playing on one single level and with a limited a handful of guns and perks/attachments in this trial more than I enjoyed playing the full game of Cod4 and that s saying something about the quality of the gameplay. This is one predominately single player game where I might actually be interested in the Multiplayer Vs side of things as it dosn't appear to have been showhorned in like most mainly single player releases nowadays and has actually been developed with some pretty good gameplay ideas in mind.

Looking forward to trying out the new demo/s.
