crysis and ut3 tanking?

I hope you don't do that when actually shopping, half the stuff there is overkill. That PSU can be downsized, the HDD can be downsized, even the DVD+RW can be downsized, even that CPU can be downsized a lot for Crysis.

Sheer nonsense TBH.

Yes he spent more than he needed on that example.
But it still easily prooves the point that you don't need £1500 to run UT3.

So give him a break..

I'm tempted to download the UT3 demo to prove my point but 750MB is gonna take a while and I think i'd rather play Rome Total War anyway :p

From what I hear, that sort of spec would just about hack medium at a playable framerate.

I have a similar spec with a 8800gt and it plays the game on a combination of high/med no problem. Mess around with the configs and you can get it looking really sweet.

Cost me less than 350 quid to upgrade my mobo ram cpu and gfx card. Once I sell my old bits I'll get some money back towards it. Tbh all I needed was the gfx card but I thought 'what the hell'.

Becuase there's loads of variables that can effect it.

Other people on the Epic forums have the same experience.

There is an official UT3 system requirements 'calculator' type thing which I can't find the link to... you input your system spec and it tells you the expected level of performance. Putting mine in came up 'very low detail' or something. As soon as you input a better graphics card, the detail level shot up. Shame I can't find the link as it would help back up my point.

edit - here it is: http://ut2341.com/UT3SystemScore/ it doesn't actually include my exact CPU or the 7600GS but you can reduce the speed of a 7600GT for a fair comparison. (a 7600GS is just a lower clocked GT of course)

Crysis does scale it is just the wrong way,in a generation orso we start to max it out if we lucky:D.
As changing my 320 to a gtx or better will up the setting quite a bit

Out of interest did you try comparing framerates at different graphical settings? Just wondering if you were cpu limited.

btw UT3 is now at 30th / 650 players

Yes the better graphics settings resulted in halved framerates pretty much. As I said before, those were the settings needed to get 'decent' framerates for it to be properly playable. Dipping into the teens and low 20s for a fast paced FPS twitch shooter is obviously not playable.

I think this goes to show it's time to move on from FPS games, I don't mean abolish them completely but just stop saturating the market with them all the time.

I am fed up with them personally.

What progress though? UT3 is basically UT99 rehashed with better graphics (if you have the hardware). The gameplay is utterly dumbed down from UT2004.

Its more Epic realised the error of the last 2 versions moving away from what the game should have been i.e. more online orientated and returned to the gameplay etc from the first UT, which the vast majority of original UT players wanted kept all along. It also says a lot that old school clans from the original UT days are now appearing on the scene and reforming or signing up to ladders it has done something right in those eyes.

I will admit Epic have screwed up and released a buggy, unfinished game with aspects of the UI etc which should have stayed with the consoles and not been kept for the PC version. This will be damaging them until they get all the fixes in place needed to get this game to a playable level for everyone that can't play it at present due to bugs. This aspect is the more damaging one for the long term future of UT3 than people needing to adjust to the various game modes.

In fact the main complaint i have heard from ictf players moving up to this version from 2K4 is that they are finding it a lot harder to cope with, this side of the game is closer to the original UT mode. Other modes i am not interested in and neither were a lot of old school clans, so i admit honestly i have no idea to how these have changed but for ictf which i only used to play that part is perfect for me.

at the end of the day we all know consoles suck and PC's are infinitely better :P

i think crysis will be a long term seller, as the majority of people cant play it well on their pc so sales will go on for a long time.

funny thing is that over hyped crap called halo has sold bazillions because of some rather good advertising, forgetting that the game isn't good, people think OH MY GOD HALO 3 I HAVE TO BUY IT because of the previous halo's + load of advertising, bit of an injustice to crysis, the better game.

+1

Completely agreed.
