crysis and ut3 tanking?

..so upgrade, or play it on low settings, Or are we all supposed to keep playing games using 3 year old engines until you decide to upgrade? The situation is no different to when Farcry was first released. Its a demanding game, get over it.

You still don't seem to get it. Read back over my posts and come back when you understand the concept of scaling, how it works and how it benefits people using older hardware.

'3D physics' and 'character interaction' have nothing to do with gfx cards.
I was pointing out that HL2 was not simply HL1 with better graphics, as had been suggested.

Why does UT3 look so abysmal on lower settings though?

Why did UT2004 run decently on budget cards like the Geforce2 MX yet UT3 runs far worse on cards like the 7600GS?

From what I hear, that sort of spec would just about hack medium at a playable framerate.

And all you're doing is proving my point. I'd need to buy a new PC to even have a chance of playing.

How is that better than before, when you could choose to buy the top notch stuff and it look awesome, but it would still play fine on older slower machines?

... Well you heard wrong i'll tell you now. Can you not accept you need more juice to run techincally more demanding games? The scalability you talk about changes rapidly in instances like this where there is so much going on in the world at one time REGARDLESS of quality setting. If you don't want a highend, immersive and interactive experience (all of which were aims as stated by Cevart Yerli on several occasions) then don't buy the game.

Got any more screenshots of it like that? It could well be an anomaly, unless you can show me more screenshots like with a complete system spec then it's pretty much worthless tbh. Like I said before, it's not just graphics power that games need. For all we know that PC could have had a pentium III and 512mb ram.

Of course I can, just like HL2 needed a damn good PC to run at it's best back in it's day. If you had the best PC, the graphics were the best around.

The difference is, which is where you all seem to be stumbling, is that Half Life 2 would let you play it on older hardware too and still look pretty good.

Crysis/UT3 will not let me do this. With Crysis/UT3, you still get the mindblowing graphics if you have the beasty machine but they put no effort into it's scaling abilities, so anything substantially less than cutting edge just wont work. It's unplayable.

No more screenshots as I no longer have the card. My PC is a P4 3.0C with 1 gig of PC3200. But the processor and RAM have no bearing on what the graphics look like, only the speed at which the game runs.

Again like I said before, it's a leap in technology, the scalability scale starts again- here. There are so many things and calculation going at one time in the world even on the lowest settings. Half-life 2 is not in the same techonlogy league as Crysis.

Anyone else you know having similar experiences? It could be just you.

Or just turn things down a notch. :P

Would the Source engine run as fast as it does on your card if they tried to chuck in the amount of foilage and detail, and all in vast open areas that Crysis offers? No. Your card simply cant handle it. Crysis is a demanding game. If you want it to look good at playable framerates you need a decent up to date card. I dont understand what else Crytek could have done apart from reduce the gfx quality to get it to run on a card like yours. Remove all the trees maybe?

I'm sorry that doesn't wash with me, scalability is scalability. Your engine either works well with older technology or it doesn't. Half Life 2 was both cutting edge and able to run on old technology. Crysis/UT3 are just cutting edge.

Obviously HL2 isn't in the same league as C/UT3, i've never said it was, it's 3 years old, of course it won't be. I'm using it as a platform for the principle. There is no reason other than sheer laziness on the part of the development that Crysis and UT3 don't work better on lower end technology.

I picked the first case that I saw, don't cry.
I hope you don't do that when actually shopping, half the stuff there is overkill. That PSU can be downsized, the HDD can be downsized, even the DVD+RW can be downsized, even that CPU can be downsized a lot for Crysis.

Sheer nonsense TBH.

Are you serious? I'm sorry but it's not a matter of it "washing with you", it's a fact. If you don't like next-gen, progress and more interactive games go and sit in the corner with your penny-farthing and Half-Life.

No I don't do that when shopping surprisingly, but I do when when I want to quickly whip together a spec that clearly illustrates a point. You're welcome to re-do it for me, althought I think the time and relevance has actually passed now.

You still don't understand at all do you? :(
