crysis - not all that...

I think you'll be suprised at how well Crysis is received by PC Gamers, and what it offers those who do embrace it. The team behind Crysis are good at what they do. The stuff they have implemented so far looks excellent to me and I personally can't wait to get my hands on the game.

I don't really see why any thread has to end up pitting current FPS's against each other. Bioshock is a superb game, but as far as I can see it's going to have very little impact on Crysis at this point in the games development.

For those of you who seem to enjoy 'gameX will beat gameY because..' with no real evidence - why don't you just take these games as they are, try them out on release - and quit talking about things plainly do not know right now.

Theres so much to a great game
Plot
character
atmosphere
guns
gameplay
sound
graphics
finished package

I doubt crysis will beat bioshock because that game fills all the above while as has been said, crysis looks like far cry but better graphics.

evolutionary not revolutionary

shockingly another utterly pointless and unprovable thread that leads to arguing.

firstly, bioshock rocks, in a lot of ways but has a basically massive massive massive flaw.

its not at all difficult. it completely failed to learn from Stalkers massive error. both have significant, and frankly completely and utterly unscaled increases in weapon damage/special ability's power. both games, well stalker at least on a decent difficulty is very hard with a crap weapon for the first 15 mins, but within no time you get one decent weapon and the entire rest of the game is pretty easy, then you get 5 decent, artifacts and you spend like 3/4's of the game almost completely invunerable. Bioshock had the exact same thing. at first, the first big daddy is a major fight, crappy weapon, weak ammo, tight fighting space, the daddy runs at you like mad. later on, big daddies wouldn't get a single hit on me. then well, if anyone dies in the last 5 mins of the game you really really really suck at gaming.

the ai is poor, is largely scripted and is not good AI. big daddies are simply told not to attack unless you attack them.

apart from being stupidly easy it is very very good though.

but crysis, to simply claim it looks pretty but thats it? one thing also missing , considering games these days, everyone talking about PPU's(albeit incorrectly) the physics in bioshock sucked. walls did a generic damage pattern some very specific things were movable with telekenisis, while nothing else was moveable. one of the very biggest features of crysis, which added to the graphics, is that a insane amount of the pretty stuff you can see, can be damaged, destroyed and turned into weapons. shooting a tree , shooting through the bark, from a side/angle causing it to fall on a building, dude, vehicle and seeing whatever it is take massive damage. its an immense, hyped up and VERY OBVIOUS feature that you've chosen to completely ignore while saying its going to be the same and boring.

most COD games, and MOH, while great, we're all kinda done with the insanely scripted attacks, we're kinda bored of it. hence MOH taking a very different path, objectives in the order you want, multiple paths, semi good AI, much more of a choice. i haven't seen anything on COD4, but unless it does the same, i'm so completely bored and over entirely linear games.

Not quite true. If there's any threat to the Little Sister he notices and reacts. I've been smacked halfway across a room before by getting a little too close for comfort. I've also seen him go on the defensive if a weapon is pointed in her direction, sometimes lifting her up and putting her on his back.

The AI in Bioshock is fantastic and helped make the game what it is, the enemies often proving to be very tricky to beat. From what i've seen from everything that has been released for Crysis this isn't the case...and a game that allows you to zip around at high speeds, go invisible and then double up your armour doesn't appeal very much...the enemies in the videos were appalling, barely reacting to what they player did, and their aim was non-existant. Unless they drastically improve the AI this game is going to be ruined (fancy sunsets and all).

Am enjoying Bioshock, and am looking forward to Crysis.

Bioshock is incredibly linear, but I can live with that as it's quite enjoyable, and a real piece of art. Not to mention immersive. There are times I actually felt cold when in some of the frozen sections.

Crysis is not out yet, so I won't comment on it. I will however be buying it when it comes out. Even if the gameplay ain't all that, I am really looking forward to roaming around the lush looking jungle during the cold winter months. It's pure escapism. Same as Far Cry was.

Why are people so determined to run these things into the ground before they even come out?

Not quite sure how you came to that conclusion.

Don't get me wrong, i hope Crysis is amazing cos then we're all winners. I just can't see it at the moment.

I just think the graphics are a bit of a double-edged sword that's all. a lot of people say yeah it has nice graphics but I bet the gameplay will be lacking, without even playing it.

And you
can't seriously
know which
game will be
better in
the long run
as you haven't
played both.

Based on the fact that bioshock is very much on rails
and short lived once i have played through it i won't be going back.

I can kinda see what the OP is getting at, the gameplay side of crysis doesnt look that amazing from the videos, whenever I think of crysis it is immediately the gfx and how good they are and not the gameplay but I guess we'll have to wait for the demo on the 25th.

lmao....someone lit the CoD touchpaper and stood back :p

gonna for airborne cos i loved allied assault and this will be its b**Stard cousin

looking forward to CoD4

IIRC all the video demonstrations of crysis have been played on easy, so the features can be shown. I've not seen one single video yet that shows the AI at a realistic tye of level yet. Although the hands on testing that website did the other week said the AI was stupid, but then they changed it from easy to a harder difficulty and they said it was much MCUH better.

Bioshock is over-rated anyway. I didn't really like it much at all, it felt very scripted and although looking quite good frm a distance, a lot of the visuals were appauling.

Sorry lads, but you have to reserve judgement until the games arrive. They both look impressive in their own right, but there's no way to compare right now.

Bioshock has been another lesson in gameplay over graphics, and it's not like we haven't seen it before (System Shock had it all). But it's been so long since we've been given a classic game that it feels like a revolution.

My point is that gameplay is the key! That is what devs and publishers need to get into their thick skulls :D Good graphics are nice, but it HAS to be secondary to gameplay or it's all a waste of time. I worry about Crysis because of this, I don't want an expensive tech demo.

no not just vids i read all the info as well and like it havin non scripted ai sounds fun;) plus the the way u take out vehicles insted of shotin the **** out of it till it dies insted shot the heilcopters missile pod and it blows up and carse it to crash or shot the propeller so it drops out of the air plus its the same in mutiplayer
You know ALL AI is scripted, you can't have AI without having a script.

Also nobody would even be as bothered about Crysis if it didn't have groundbreaking graphics, I don't think this can be argued with. I know I wouldn't be as fussed for sure.

Bioshock and Crysis are two quite different games. Bioshock is an FPS and an RPG rolled into one, whereas Crysis is pure FPS action.

I think Crysis will be a great action game and im hoping it'll have amazing sights that make you go "wooooooooowowwwww!!" throughout the game to keep you in there. Difficult to criticise the game when very very few people have played it, those who have were at i31 like me :D Nobody knows much about the game so who knows whats in store

Almost everything in crysis is destroyable and or intractable.
I SWEAR YOU CAN SHOOT A BLADE OF GRASS AN SEE THE EFFECT !
If this is not a revolution in game play then i don't know what is
what other game can you shoot through a tree and make it fall onto an enemy.
Or shoot the tires out of jeeps and watch them crash maybe run over some of their own soldiers in the process and so on and so forth !
Sorry but bioshock is fantastic but isn't in the same league compared to this gameplay and depth wise.
It's like comparing pitfighter vs streetfighter 2.

sorry. i havent been on the net for a while.

To most people saying play the game and then find out, i was saying this stuff based on the stuff that is out for us to see with both COD 4 and Crysis. (and its not like COD does not have stunning visuals)

CoD4 doesn't have destructible enviroments though that the AI has to react to. CoD4 is going to be very linear so they can easily programme the AI and tell it where to take cover and how to flank, whereas in Crysis the AI will need to know what buildings are still standing, what trees they can take cover behind and so on.

Meh comes to mind when i think of crysis. what does it have that other FPS does not?

Come to think of it..... ALL FPSs from now on should be set from the way COD4 is turning out:cool:

Discuss.

(puts on jacket for having an opinoin:D)

I agree with you.
