CRYSIS vs. The Modern GPU (Part 1)

although to make it fair i should get my cpu to 2.8 from 2.4, but the 650i chipset really does struggle with lots of things at once.

i had to remove 1gb of ram (now at 2gb) as it just wouldnt boot with all 4 slots occupied since ive started using sli. overclocking the cpu is really teadious as well. but ill do my best.

The 650i realy is pants just look at the ASUS support forum for the P5N-E SLI. 129 pages of threads all with problems.

http://vip.asus.com/forum/topic.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5N-E+SLI&board_id=1

yes that is the problem

although i think a lot of the C1 error deaths are due to poor NB/Mosfet cooling, if you take care of that the board isn't so bad.

not quite a P35/X38 but not too bad and EVGA A1 boards are going pretty damn cheap right now :)

Cheapest ive seen is 140, are they even cheaper?

a little bit cheaper, not a lot.

i guess they'll drop even more once 780i is launched although that's pushed back to january no?

Yup, is a shame. The fact taht i cant play any nenw games untill i get a new pc is really irritating as everything is coming out after christmas but i cant play any games for christmas if i dont get a new pc before hand :(

No I wouldn't go that far, it just shows that what people consider silky smooth can vary a great deal. This isn't an attempt to shame any of my fellow forum members but instead to take away any opinions at all and just look at bare fps facts. Personally I aim for 1920x1200with a minimum of 30fps and as much goodies as I can get away with, others may prefere an average of 30fps.
I know I know, was just making a point :) I think everyone has always had their own opinion to what is smooth/playable. To me, 20-40FPS isn't that!

If your going to quote me then don't do it out of context.

Also you might what to try a bit of overclocking ;)

Here's my post with MY bench mark and comments.

"Just run Crisis everything high no AA under XP E6600 @ 3.6 - 745/2100/1863

@ 1920x1200

Min 23
Average 28
Max 32

@1680x1080

Min 25
Average 35
Max 41

1920x1200 feels silky smooth suprised by the low numbers. Feels faster when playing.

Interesting difference between our score fornowagain. Quads don't seem to benifit very much at all."

You could run 3x SLI's it still aint the answer to getting it running well.

The Game is supposed to be CPU Dependant and for most inc myself does not use the 1Core enough nevermind the other 1-3 (100's of threads on web about it).

Throwing more and more powerfull hardware at a game is only hiding its flaws, I would like to hear what BS Cevat Yeril would tell us now we all know how bad it runs.

I wouldn't say it runs badly because the game looks amazing and keeps the minimum 30FPS at 1680x1050. And I think CPU plays a bit more of a part than everyone thinks because on my 2.4 Ghz AMD X2 I get about 10 FPS less than everyone with C2Ds on all High settings.

Im getting 75% on both 3.4ghz conroe cores and Ive recorded upto 95%. I think it'd be 100% but my memory is still stock spd at the moment so its probably throttling, 95% is only benchmarking so its ok in most cases I think

Which reminds me, do the people recording crysis on fraps have quad core because it freezes after 10 secs recording when I try before carrying on, etc

It runs nowhere near what he said it would and on the hardware he claimed it would run that well on.

No PC today could run it at the setting she said and get good FPS, the guy is obv full of BS or the game is majorly flawed.

All the posts you see about its made for next Gen Hardware and its GPU dependant etc area alll wrong and 100% inacurrate as you can go and read every one of his interviews over a period of about 1 year and see what he has been saying.

@ BigDave, I aint seen any interviews from him since launch of Game, only a small bit of info about he says now the game wont benefit from a Quad and will run the same as it would on a Dual.
I have posted enough of them in this forum over the months.

Im actually glad there is a thread in the PC Games Section about Crysis or CoD 4, cause a few weeks ago anyone that slated Crysis got themselfs slated in here.

I find it same as repeatative FarCry only better Graphics (some of it looks weird and crap IMO), they also slated CoD 4 for being an old engine revamped, but I did the demo and read all the posts here and its seems it a great looking, great playing game.

Cod 4 imo is a better game than crysis having played them both runs better looks nice and multiplayer is amazing. Don't get me wrong though crysis is still a nice game.
