Crysis!

Is it just me or do those shadows in the second shot look fake......anyway the new video looks very good, and the power-ups seem to add a dimension to the game play. The world seems very real from the physics to the sound effects and as for the graphics - well I now want a new card, as my 7600gt is not going to cut it.

Lucky I have a while to save up.

We are nearing alpha status, which means full feature and content completion on the entire project, with a solid pass on balancing. That is valid for the single-player and multiplayer experience. We are very excited. Crysis is shaping up as we imagined it. Stay tuned, it's almost there.

doesn't sound to me like 2008 :D
Only just reaching alpha? It's going to take a good 6 months I'd have thought to get out of that into beta.

no offense to anyone, but poeple have to remember, this is a game lol, not meant to look like a snap you took whilst on holiday to greece haha

to me, for its graphics, this is stunning and for the physics, a break through.

bearing in mind, if this game came out 5 years ago, it would have been something donated by aliens...

ags :)

Aye, ive been putting off upgrading for a while now. Definitely want to play this game with its full potential and hopefully Vista will be slightly better ironed out by the time this is released.

I don't care one jot if they're fake, the final game will look superb (does now), shadows and all...they just looked like someone had a go with Photoshop, thats all.

I do remember a massive who-har when some Unreal2 screens were released with fake shadows, and the boss who sanctioned it had to apologise.

i got 8800 GTX's in sli, hopefully i will get a decent play factor with this.

although, my worry is i might have to nib in a physx card just to get the ingame physics that are makeing it the game of choice.

I wouldnt do that, the game doesnt use physx AFAIK it offloads the physics onto another core of the CPU if you have one. Im sure SLi GTX's will be excellent, but we all know there are going to be changes to the cards and price drops before the game comes out.

yar, and good new on the physx card, didnt know that, :D

and at the rate of the release date for this game, it wouldnt suprise me if there are new cards out by then.

That video was great!

Wonder what spec they were running it on though, 'cause there are stutters.
Stutters are probably more down to the conversion to a low crappy quality video.

Will I be buying Crysis, yes probably and I'll no doubt enjoy it, but if it doesn't significantly improve on the gameplay then it certainly won't be considered a classic in my opinion.

Jokester

I have to agree with that. I loved roaming around in Farcry and sniping with a friend over LAN was a good laugh but didn't enjoy the actual gameplay and never did try and complete it.

didn't i just....the game will be able to utilise Physx or if a Physx isn't present, it'll use another CPU Core if one's present (if it isn't then be ready for the lag). Also, Crytek mentioned a few weeks ago that even the 8800's won't be able to handle it in DX10 mode.

So you don't need a physx card. It would help but it's not essential. A dual-core or better is ideal.

On a side note, the 3D Vista GUI isn't gonna be available until later this year. It's probably gonna be available as a Service Pack. There will be basic DX10 support in the elease of vista but the major support will come as a service pack. So even when Crysis is released, you won't experience the full whammy of it until that service pack. It's kinda like the same situation that we had with XP where SP2 improved FPS loads.

I dunno.....it seemed to stutter when he turned quickly which looks like textures being cached to me. I wonder if Crysis may be one of the first games needing more than 2GB of RAM on full settings?
