Crytek has announced Homefront: The Revolution

Installed this last night.

Was interested to play it before the middling reviews and I believe it's been patched considerably since launch.

2 days of free access to the game seems like a good idea.

I am trying the free trial, I get some really bad screen stuttering while in menu's or videos but thankfully the game is ok.

Overall, it's an easy generic shooter. Graphically it's too clean, just doesn't feel grimy enough for the setting.

Thanks for the heads up on the free trial,I wanted to try this game but not pay full whack for it and be disappointed like most new games today.

Saying that i did enjoy the first Homefront,Albeit it was a bit short.

I was busy this weekend so probably only got 6 hours or so to play and didn't complete it. Not sure how far through it I was but I'd gotten to the 2nd yellow zone area when you get on the monorail and managed to get Hearts and Minds to 100% there.

Graphics wise it does look decent, thanks to Cryengine and as I understand it, has had numerous patches to improve performance since release. It ran great at 3440x1440 at the highest settings. Wasn't quite hitting locked 100fps on my X34 monitor, but was averaging around 75fps.

Gameplay wise, it seemed very easy. I did die a few times, but in terms of capturing places often you can just sneak around and get to the 'gas wheel' without even really coming up against much in the way of opposition. I didn't use the motorcycle much unless it was needed for a 'puzzle' (I say that in the loosest sense of the word) as you can run everywhere so quickly, particularly once you unlock most of the outfit 'boosts'

In terms of characters and story though, I didn't find it particularly engaging. All the resistance people are pretty much just horrible 2D archtypes and I didn't really feel like a freedom fighter. I was so uninterested in the setting that I got to the point where I wasn't reading journals I found, which fill in the backstory.

It has some nice ideas, but I think they weren't really developed well enough and some of the gameplay elements are a bit half-arsed.

Tempted to pay £18 to complete it, so it wasn't terrible or anything. Just the definition of a nice looking, completely average game.

Yeah I quite liked it. Enough to pay £18 anyway. Didn't find it amazing but OK and I like fps and the whole weapon rpg type elements of Far Cry that are in there.

Finished it this weekend.

Still going to stick with my original comment, it's a generic 3d first person shooter with no special qualities to make it stand out.

It seemed to take elements from lots of other games and merge them into one, the story line was pretty weak, can't say I felt anything for them as the game progressed and it just kind of went from "same old same old" to "all out war". Spent most of the game with my pistol and rifle, switching between RPG and crossbow.

Can't say I spent a lot of time convertly sneaking around either, I tried too but sometimes it was just too easy to shoot a load of npcs in the head and run off.

I'd say it's not bad to play through once but I wouldn't be going back to it. I didn't try the multiplayer side of the game but can't see it being anything special.
