CS:GO Discussion

Yeah, short bursts whilst strafing is the way to go. With the hitboxes being tighter it will trump the sprayer in most instances.

Ideally you want to be popping your shots after you release A then press D and vice versa. If you time it correctly the first shot will be totally accurate with something like an AK.

Please may someone explain how this game is anything more than slightly improved graphics and a couple of new mediocre maps?

I cannot understand how this is 8 years of progress from CSS

Yeah, most of my little habits are coming back to me and i'm getting better :) AWP is still my favourite weapon to use, doing pretty well with it.

What exactly do you think would constitute progress in CS? The fact of the matter is most players who enjoy CS don't want a change in gameplay. They want a simple, skill-based shooter without the lame perks and unlocks found in the majority of shooters available at the moment.

Well for starters more than 2 original gun game maps... Make 5 or 10 so you have a nice variety when playing. I'm not sure what other changes I would make as I'm not a game developer. I just felt the game was a very weak release with not much change and what change there was seems to have upset quite a few people.

My question was a genuine one... Was the sole purpose of this release after 8 years just to upgrade the graphics slightly?

I'm sure mill and strike will both come into it at some stage, as they were both used in competitive leagues and a lot of lan tournaments.

Cbble was removed due to it being too heavily CT sided and well prodigy was just for pure fun :p

I'm sure all of them will be in the game along with a lot of older maps at some point, but can only see mill (will probably be de_tuscan which was pretty much identical to cpl_mill) and strike being more likely used in leagues.

There's this common misconception that cbble was heavily CT sided and I can't say I agree with it, I feel like it favours CTs (most de_ maps do) but I don't think it's heavily in their favour. The map wasn't explored nearly enough in low level leagues like Enemydown and SGL etc but once you went up a bit in level to mid - high like CSGN a lot of teams did well for themselves on cbble as Ts, Prodigy is another map that wasn't explored nearly enough.

With all that being said, I'm talking about 1.5/1.6 days. I didn't play Source competitively as I hated the game, so I'm not sure what the maps were like in that game.

Im enjoying this game but its too easy. That and the fact all they've done on most maps is just reskin/increase the size of the boxes and add a door here or there, the actual textures on the wall are identical to source haha :D

They have only put effort into Dust maps, and D2 didnt need changing in the first place.

I agree. It just seems like a reskin of an old game. I just can't bring myself to playing the same maps that I played 10+ years ago, there is only so much dust etc that I can take!

I think the reason is because both 1.6 and CSS are old. Now, to the gamer that doesn't really matter because they are both still great games and well supported (referring to the latter), but sponsors would much rather put their money into a new game. New game means new PC hardware, and sponsors like that (the cynic inside me is saying that Valve are deliberately keeping graphic cvars cheat protected for a while so people upgrade for more fps ;))

CS:GO has the potential to provide common ground to 1.6, CSS and even cod4 players. That's a big competitive player base - very attractive to sponsors. With sponsors you get prize money, with prize money you get top teams. All the "big name" players like f0rest and HeatoN say they'll be moving to CS:GO soon enough.

I can see why you'd think the game was "weak" on release, but I don't think it matters because Valve will be supporting this game for a LONG time. I mean, look at CSS - still very relevant regular patches after 8 years! As for the gungame maps, yeh they are really there just to help newer players. I'm sure new official maps will come, and the community maps will take care of the shortfall.

All the above is of course my opinion, but I think it makes sense.

Anyone know why when I launch the game it does the 'finishing install' thing and then it resets my cross hairs?

It seems to me it was about establishing a common ground for 1.6 and source players as well as graphical improvements. You're right, the difference between the releases is hardly night and day, but I fail to see why they should be. The formula clearly works and there's plenty of other FPS that provide something different.

The only reason maps feel CT sided is because T hardly ever rush in public

So true. When it comes to competitive play I'd say the terrorists have a very slight advantage. As CT you need to spread out between the bomb sites whereas the terrorists can concentrate their push into a single bomb site.

Terrorists will win if they stay inside and defend the hostages, usually they end up trying to run outside and get owned.

Ah yeh I meant I've never seen CT win a single round. I forgot it was a hostage map. The map is way too easy to defend.

And there highlights the point, those who are moving are doing so because of the prize money - not because it's a better game.

As someone who enjoyed competitive 1.6 but was never good enough to become professional, there is absolutely no reason to play CS:GO.
