Old CS was really big on settings for special advantages, I dont think default is so terrible now to start and a lot of settings are locked or standardised to stop one section having advantage over the others.

Does anybody have any decent 128 tick FFA DM servers favourited? Since Ambrosia went down I'm yet to find anything that isn't a pile of dog ****.

Even on FaceIT and ESEA (pay to play effectively) formats you still don't always get good comms as a lot of people who think they're good but are GN4 and the like join up and basically waste their money and other people's time.

Fun Fact: Less than 1% of the CSGO community is the highest rank of Global Elite...
^Probably been mentioned before but yeah, lel. I am the <1%.
 
I play most evenings after work, currently GNM, but I only solo queue and don't take it *too* seriously. I would however rather play with players of a lower skill over an "unpleasant" attitude.

Would there be enough people on OcUK up for setting up a less . . focused (elitist) group for playing together?

fragshack which is run by esea but you can get a place free when map changes every 15 mins usually

I've noticed some oddities with ranks too. I was MGE, lost a few games dropped to MGI, won more than 10 in row went up to MGII and haven't moved since despite being at 20+ wins to 3 or 4 loses. This happened in about 1 - 1.5 months.
 
damn, haven't played in a while now (1-2 months) Got back this weekend, i kind of changed my config a lot :DPI/sensitivity, and i'm still trying to cope with the change.
went down from LEM to DMG, made me go WTF, tryhard and got LE back.
Also it seems in most games i get 1 guy in either team(mine or the opposing) which is carrying HARD (30+ bombs). I remember the good times in LEM when people were pretty close to each other.
Also i was SMFC at some point, so yeah, even I thought the rank system needs re-thinking.
I'ma try esea servers to see what that's about.

The ranking system had a major overhaul recently.

I was previously Supreme, won 5 games in a row - nothing. Lost one game, dropped down to LEM.

I just got my re-replacement match after not playing for months... Was DMG/LE before, won re-placement.... Gold Nova 1

Now I get to wreck people non stop for ever... well good for me I suppose.
 
That's the only problem I have with the ranking adjustment Valve has carried out.

For people that are inactive from MM for a few weeks, they suddenly get dropped a lot of ranks. They're effectively forcing people to smurf through lower ranks which only disrupts gameplay for everyone else, it takes much longer than previously also.

They absolutely needed to shift the ranks as they have, but doing so via such a heavy penalty for inactivity only leads to more unbalanced games.
 
If you're fretting and worrying about ranks you're clearly not as good as you think. The top lot of players, no-one players competitive at a very high skill. I've been in global for as long as I can remember and no way does Global mean you're amazing, I've seen a lot of trash in there.
 
The inactivity issue has always been like that to an extent. It just seems more so just now as everyone is still adjusting to the new ranks. Once it's been in place for a few months it will seem like it was previously I'd bet.

A huge number of people are moving towards services like faceit and ESEA, which are far better than MM imo.

Doesnt work like that as you will be playing with players as the same MMR as you.
The ranks havent changed at all, but the MMR scalings did. As an example, if LE required 2000MMR to reach before now, its 4000MMR and gold1 is 2000MMR.
Your technically exactly where you have always been..and will be playing with and against players of similar MMR.

Inactivity must lose you a lot of points though.

Had 2 accounts on Global, one which I hadn't used in 2/3 months. Played one game and lost 16-14, new rank.. DMG. This is the account I ranked to GE within 30 games.

My main I hadn't played in a month, initially dropped to SMFC, but is back to GE after winning a few games.

Yeah I think the inactivity does lose ELO.

I was Global and had won roughly 17 out of my last 20 games, I didn't play MM for a few weeks and lost my rank.

Won my first game back and dropped to Supreme. I only ever really played it to keep my GE rank but now it's dropped I'm not sure I can face a grind back!
